Iraq War deaths, by state

    Interesting to see the population clusters. Not sure what the difference between the black and gray dots is (I think gray is where they're originally from and black is where they're posted, but I could be wrong).

    I am surprised that Texas got outdied by North Carolina and Georgia. I would expect Texas to be second only to California, given the state population and the number of military bases in each state.

    North Carolina got hit hard because Camp Lejuene (big Marine camp) is there. The Marines seemed to lose the most lives in this war, and that is why states like North Carolina and California were hit hard.

    Yep, the 2 major USMC bases in the US are in California (Camp Pendleton) and North Carolina (Camp Lejeune), and Georgia is home to Army Infantry headquarters at Ft. Bragg.
