While Iran has accepted the US request for talks regarding Iraq, the arrogant and bellicose language by the US, most recently by Dick Cheney on the deck of a US aircraft carrier, as well as its hostile actions (including kidnapping Iranians) has already made sure these talks will not achieve anything useful. In this context, Iran's message to the US will probably focus on the kidnapped Iranian diplomats held by American forces, as well as Iran's demand that the US withdraw its troops from Iraq.

Iran's Supreme Leader OKs Talks With US

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's supreme leader gave his backing Wednesday to U.S.-Iran talks about Iraq's security. But he took a tough line, insisting the meeting will deal only with fixing American policies in Iraq, not changing Iran's.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's harsh tone appeared aimed at quieting criticism by hard-liners over the planned meeting in Baghdad with the United States _ and signaled that it's unlikely the talks will make progress in reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The Iraqi government has been seeking the talks, hoping the two sides can find a way to ease Iraq's turmoil.

Khamenei said Iran agreed to the "face-to-face negotiation" to "remind the U.S. of its responsibilities and duties regarding security" and "give them an ultimatum." He did not specify what the ultimatum was.

"The talks will only be about the responsibilities of the occupiers in Iraq," he said during a speech to a group of clerics in Mashhad city, about 620 miles northeast of Tehran, according to state-run television.

Wow, your first comments are funny. Bellicose and arrogant. Sounds exactly like the type of statement that arhmadejiadad or however you spell that name, speaks. Perhaps you were looking in a mirror when you made that statement. Also the kidnapping part, utter irony considering iran's recent track record in that dept.

Perhaps they will talk about the multiple kidnapped Iranian-Americans being held in Iran as well as the former FBI agent kidnapped in Kish. Also it isn't up to Iran to demand anything of the US when it comes to our troops in Iraq, the demand should be from the US to Iran to quit interfering in iraq or face a harsh response.

But glad to see the supreme dodad in iran oks talks with the US. But nothing will come of it until Iran has real leaders who are interested in fruitful talks with the US.

I read the first sentence and realized this thread would be nothing more than another wonderful example of why Iran and the U.S. will never get along.

Stop acting like ********ing 7-year-olds, stop pointing the damn finger at each other, realize that both countries are ********ed up, and ********ing deal with it.
