Jimmy Jamshid Delshad, a Persian who emigrated to the United States in 1959, has become mayor of....

....ah, never mind, no one on this board would have any interest in local Southern California politics.

    He came here in 1959???

Jesus, his English is awful for being here 50 years. I listened to him on the radio the other night. Seems like a smart guy.

Dude's been here since 1959. Why is he still being described as Iranian?
Never mind- I see it was an issue to some of his opponents, despite his being here almost half a damn century.

"Delshad earned a degree from California State University, Northridge, launched his own successful computer storage business and moved to Beverly Hills"
Seems like he did OK despite the accent...

Half of Beverly Hills's residents are Persian yet I don't recall ever seeing 1 Persian in Beverly Hills 90210 (not that I watched every episode  ) I only recall a scene in the movie clueless (arguably the greatest movie of all time!) where Alicia Silverstone's character was giving the new girl a tour of the school and then she warned her against the Persians when they were walking by a bunch of them saying "And that's the Persian mafia. You can't hang with them unless you own a BMW."

btw an Iranian-American by the name of Leila Vaziri just broke the world's swimming record in 2 categories.

So a rich Jew becomes a mayor of a rich California city full of Jews. And this is a significant story why?

Because he's an Iranian-American Jew, which is a blend of the three cultures that apparently are responsible for everything good & bad in known history (although it hasn't quite been sorted out who gets credit or blame for what). Where this leaves China is beyond me.

If anything, anywhere we, Iranians, go we bring with us the culture of learning, teaching, and building. Indeed, it's our tenacity and resolve for rebuilding thru the concept of "Tekkun daadan", which has entered the Hebrew language as well [Tikkun], that has put fear into the heart of our enemies throught history.

I will discuss the concept of "Tekkun" in Persian another time, and I will also elaborate how Hebrews borrowed the word and its philosophy, although not fully, in later time when I find some time.
