I was reading the Iranian paper today and there was an interview with the head of IFF... he was talking about Iran's schedule before the WC... he said that there is gonna be a game between Iran and Korea either on 11th or 15th of October (because of the FIFA's calendar and Europe WCQ games, so the teams can use the Europe based players)... can anybody confirm this? or at least comment on the possibility!
should be a decent game, if it actually gets arranged. But I don't think Korea NT will be able to bring in European-based players, especially when it's right in the middle of the new season. And it should be the same for Iran, I guess.
due to the final set of European WCQ games in these 2 dates, it is possible for Asian teams to have their players back as there is going to be a 1 week off in Euro leagues... I'm sure neither Korea nor Iran wants to play this with a B team as there is no point to it!
well, it's still a meaningless friendly, and some managers tend to want to keep their players fresh - actually SAF commented that he would like co-operations from KFA in the regard that Park Ji-Sung won't be called away for too many friendlies during season. Anyway, will this game be held in Korea or Iran, if it does go ahead?
I still don't get it when a club is off (ManU hosts enough number of European players to make this one week of training meaningless) for a week and FIFA has the game in the calendar (hopefully), why would they want to keep Asian players there?... well there was nothing about where the game is going to be held (it says they are still negotiating)... in reality both teams would want an away game for preparation to WC and I'm hoping for the game to be held in Korea as well so it would be another great experience for our quite young team....
well, it maybe a week break, but the players will have to fly their home countries, play a game mid-week and then fly back, and often have to be ready for a league match on the weekeds... Which means that the players only get to rest 2-3 days max between the friendly and the league match.
Nothing from Korean media on this. Perhaps, it's just a wishful thinking by the official quoted? Frankly, I don't understand why Korea/Iran is not arranging more friendly matches between them. It mskes so much sense.
it will be a good match for both of them in so many ways..... Iran vs korea will be a good football match with both of these teams loaded with talents and fanatical fans base although, i think korean fans are best in the world...lol..please kami don't neg rep me for my post and thanks for the pos rep. me...the last AC match between korea and iran was voted the match of the tournament...even though korea lost, nevertheless. it was a great football match and even greater for korea to have a rising football nation that could match well with koreans technically even though they don't have the financial resources like the KFA has....I would much rather see korea vs iran as pose to korea vs japan cuz japansese aren't that nationalistic, well at least they don't show it, not like koreans and iranians....nevertheless, I hope that with these friendly matches, IT WILL BRING OUT TWO NATIONS TOGHETHER politcall, socially and economically AND HOPEFULLY IN BS ALSO, cuz that is the ultimate purpose of football and sports in general where it is suppose to bring PEOPLE TOGETHER NOT SEPERATE US like what we have in AR.....Just my thoughts.... tae
you know, Iran has always been around in Asia. Saudi Arabia and Japan are actually the rising football nations in Asia.
Yes you could say Iran and Korea were probably the first teams in Asia who were decent and actually made football popular in Asia. I guess they are the "classic" teams of Asia.
You also have Saudi Arabia too if we're talking about the classic asian football powers. Kuwait made their forays too. Japan is the newcomer here. Korea has been consistently a football power in Asia the longest I have to say. It's kind of surprising really.
Saudi really did not emerge as a good team until the 80's. Iran had a good team since the late 50's and the South Koreans a little before that. Burma is a joke, and there team then was a joke, the only reason they did decent at the first Asian Cups was because most other countries did not bother to show up.
Burma wasn't a joke but ... Back when Burma was doing well, Asian football was really not very well developed - not too many pro-leagues, huge gap between Asian teams vs others, ... Most tournaments were limited to a few local teams within their region. Even at that, Korea was considered a level higher than Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the like. I would not say Burma was an Asian powerhouse at that time. As I recall, it was Korea, Israel (when they were considered an Asian team), Australia (ditto), etc.. Then the middle east team came into scene (rather, more football exchange between ME & East Asia began to take place). Importance of Asian tournaments like Park's Cup, King's Cup declined and Asian Cup became more prominent.
Sorry, that's not correct. On continental level, Iran was considered a strong team in 50's, a powerhouse in 60's, and the dominant force in 70's. That's decades before other Middle Eastern teams such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia came into the scene in early 80's. Iran, Israel and Korea were/are the traditional/classic powerhouses in Asia.
I was looking at things from East/South Asian point of view. So, when I said "then the Middle East came into scene," I meant East/South Asian teams begin to play more against middle east team. I had no intention to claim Iran was not a powerhouse in Asian before 1970s - I would not have a clue about Iran's position as Asian football power prior to 1960s since I was too young to notice such things then. Let's leave it at that since this type of discussion invariably would lead to Asian Rivalry type of discussion. BTT - so, no confirmation so far on Iran vs Korea. It's all talks for now, eh?
NICE. unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about this from Korean media but I would love to see it happen.
