I did not watch the entirety of this, but I saw enough to understand his point. His point is not especially relevant here. Common usage of the term has little to no relation to what he's talking about. I think it's time for the military to put this bunch of mad dogs down, for the safety of the USA itself.
China is depending on the oil from that island and destroying it could be considered a direct attack on China, given the consequences.
Trump might as well give orders to blow up tankers heading to China, it has the same effect.

 

It's supposedly active, but it really isn't capable of downing a ballistic missile. It's 100kW and needs to be aimed at the target for multiple seconds, depending on what the target is made of, and ballistic missiles just come in too fast. It's more for short range artillery, both shells and rockets, or drones, so more the things Hezbollah launch. It's affected by atmospheric conditions, so smoke and dust reduce its capability greatly. Another problem is that the system is fixed, so if Iran knows their locations they can program the Shahed drones to go around and avoid them.

Saudi Arabia found their Chinese lasers very disappointing, but the geographic location and prevailing winds probably means Israel has way less of a dust problem than in the Gulf area.

 

The military is in a bind. There is a very good chance this is all a bluff, and either Iran can't do anything or can't do anything that we can't immediately shoot down plus get whatever launched it blown up right after. But there's also a chance at a US destroyer getting hit, and that would be a propaganda coup for Iran that the US simply can't afford to give them. The military has to play it safe. Trump can't.

Thomas Friedman has a really bad sad, because of how bad things are now. I wonder if he will come to the obvious conclusion, that The System that elevated Friedman to a Knower of Things was not at all some seamless pure meritocracy. The System is rotten and useless.

The bolded part was the purpose of Zionism 100 years ago and that was achieved. However, what we have now from Bibi & crew is ultra Zionism where genociding & invading neighbors is somehow acceptable although it's condemned by the world and has made Israel and Jews less safe. NATO already no longer exists, you dumb ********. So this threat is meaningless. Unless you can still find more than a dozen people in all of Europe that believe Trump's United States would come to the aid of say the Baltics in the case of a Russian invasion.
