The matter is that to open by force means it will for sure be completely closed for weeks on end, because nobody is going to navigate through a battle zone. So by doing that the USA would not only weaken itself, but also endangering Europe (ammo spent on Iran isnot going to be available if needed against Putin) and it's own safety interests elsewhere on the globe and ruin worldwide the economy. It could become a classic Pyrrhus victory.
Yeah, you have to be a cult member to even be in the Trump 2.0 cabinet. He'd need to stroke out before they'd even consider it.
This all is futile, the French and the Brits can't add much to what the USA already have in place. I'm pretty sure the French and Brits arenot going to risk their aircraft carriers into the Persian Gulf and I'm pretty much sure they're not going to attack Iran.
Oman and Iran have control over the south and north parts of the strait, from their declaration, from the extent of their territorial waters, and from their ability to strike vessels transiting without their permission. For decades everyone has played by their rules (innocent transit standard for Omani waters and permission for military vessels on the Iranian part, although the US has protested both because of course it has) and there hasn't been an effective closure until now. I don't know whether the US can try to control the strait without really riling up Oman. That would be a significant mistake.
And yet it is being proposed by France as we speak, at least if you consider Al-Jaseera a good source. My point is, one way or another, this (so called by some) control of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran (which I don't really consider control but is nevertheless a very effective way to destabilize business by creating risk) is a very short term reality that other nations in addition to the US are not going to stand for in the long term. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026...ips-in-strait-of-hormuz-when-war-calms-macron France preparing to escort ships in Strait of Hormuz when war calms: Macron French president says ‘purely defensive’ mission aims to gradually reopen key Gulf waterway amid spike in oil prices.
The Trump administration's utter lack of a coherent decision-making process has been an open secret in DC since he came back to office. My wife's heard it numerous times after staffers and Members of Congress have had a couple drinks.
He's just a nihilist. He doesn't have any ideas for a better system. He just wants to see the current one torn down, but hasn't thought through what the world will look like in the aftermath.
Those of us following the various legal issues have seen this very clearly for months. Thanks for the more concrete information.
USA is destroying multi million dollar ballistic missiles with 100k Hellfire Another Iranian missile has been destroyed by @CENTCOM. Note that the missile is in the process of being erected, not yet in a vertical position. pic.twitter.com/bdau7uJ9pb— Tal Inbar (@inbarspace) March 12, 2026 That means Iran is losing the war, right?
I know you dislike being told you are doing conspiracies. But you might want to consider what a number of us are telling you, that you are, indeed, promoting conspiracies from time to time.
It’s not that I mind them being labeled as such. I think it’s intellectually lazy to dismiss them without consideration because they are conspiracies. And that’s how it usually happens. “this can’t be true because it’s a conspiracy.” Does that make sense? I think that’s the biggest difference in society right now between older and younger generations. Younger generations seem more likely to entertain conspiracies because the narratives as presented don’t seem to make much sense. So you have to go under the hood a little bit, while older generations seem to not question things as much. E.G. the idea that the middle east hates us for our “freedom” that was promoted during the Bush era was clear propaganda. The people in the Middle East that don’t like us don’t like us because we steal and exploit their resources.
Bill Clinton mentioned how shocked young people are when they learn that Arafat walked away from the table despite having some of the most favorable terms. Young people also weren't around for the many atrocities the pro-Palestine movement committed over the years. 1972 in Munich for instance. Or the many plane hijackings. Or the fact that Palestine has always walked away from the table when it came time to negotiate for their own state going as far back as the 40s. EDIT: Will also add that a lot of these people keep thinking the US has always backed Israel from day one when that wasn't the case.
Did Palestinians ever steal nuclear secrets and material from the United States? Did they ever attack a US Navy Ship and kill US Service members? Do 27 states have it written into their laws that you can’t get government contracts if you boycott Palestinians?
This is totally "normal" according to some (he knows who he is via personal msg lecturing me on "extremism" ) Threatening the safety of a national team - not extremist at all. Pointing this out means I'm spewing propaganda and being Anti-American
Losing, no. But it is degrading their ability to launch ballistic missiles. On the other hand, this war is, again, showing the power of inexpensive drones vs a technologically superior opponent. The US and Israel have air supremacy over Iran and are able to bomb them at will. On the other hand, Iran is able to use sea drones to hit ships and Shaheds to hit ground targets.. Neither of which Israel and US have the ability to counter.
Just a reminder, they weren't going to be allowed in before the war even started because Iranian players were being called soldiers. Also no staff or fans are allowed entry. So this "announcement" is probably just so that FIFA can make Iran pay a fine for bailing out of the tournament at such a late date.
