Name the poster who is saying this. Even the one who was gung ho about this at the start has walked back some of his comments. Other than him, who are "those [people?]"

How long have they been saying Iran is activating their sleeper cells?

I don't believe the FBI would have been able to quash any significant number of plots if there had been any at all in its current state.

Esp if reports showing that the bombing of civilians had hardened the resolve of everyday Iranians. Why give Americans the same opportunity to pledge support for Trump and the invasion?

We over here evacuate complete neighbourhoods for removing ONE bomb, weighing 1/4 of what is being dropped by Israel and the USA in densely populated cities (Teheran) or regions (Gaza).
This is the area we in Rotterdam evacuated for a WWII bomb:

This gives you a view how many meter around that bomb was cleared for safety.

And yet it's considered "normal" procedure to drop bombs 4 times in weight, but who knows how much more in explosive power with modern chemistry, in a heavily populated area.

I wanted to tie this with this…

    the similarities are pretty remarkable.

first…on the fact that nobody planned for this. It’s not like ********ing with the straight was some super secret war strategy. FFS….the IRGC had our very own Iranian Monitor pointing out this plan to us during one of his many “look how big Iranian dicks are” tirades here. Which leads me to the comparison to Putin/Ukraine

Recall the discussion in the early days of the war when it first became apparent that it was gonna be a quagmire. We discussed how Putin…like most petty dictators…had surrounded himself with people that wouldn’t tell him the truth. Same with Trump. Trump just fired the ones who would have given him the reality of how difficult this would be. Putin threw them out of windows. But the fact remains…Presidents need people to explain the risks and the potential shit show a potential decision can have. Now…even if those voices did exist in this current administration…Trump is mentally incapable of processing such complex scenarios. But they don’t. And that’s what leads shitty leaders to terrible decisions.

This is shaping up a lot like the war in Ukraine. Trump has no real viable exit that won’t be completely humiliating for him. His mental disorders block that as an option. In Putin’s case…it’s the reality that backing out would likely result in his fall.

agreed. this was written about a lot as regards the Fuhrer Bunker. Manstein and Guderian wrote about how Hitler developed strategies and toadies to avoid facing reality.

  8. I mentioned in the iirc immigration thread, she/her government was very vocal about illegal immigrants, but they gave a 500,000 of them a workpermit.

But it would contribute to the case that they are fundamentally unequipped tactically and mentally to conduct this illegal war they have made without making a substantial case for.

(I know you’d likely agree with this statement.)

edit: I’m late here. I see you have completely addressed this.

LCS are not minesweepers. Their anti-mine capability is a strap-on kit. Not nearly as good as a ship dedicated to that role.

The most modern minesweepers are sometimes made of fiberglass (the Avenger class is wood covered with fiberglass). There's been experiments with fiberglass since the 1960's I think, but it wasn't really good enough until much later.

The idea of older minesweepers is that they tow various things to sweep the mines (I can get into excruciating detail if you want), so the ship itself has to be unlikely to detonate the mines they pass over first, thus the mostly wood construction producing less magnetic signature. But techniques have changed, and it isn't as important any more, thus using Littoral Combat Ships for the purpose. It's gotten to be more important for minesweepers to be more general purpose ships - on those rare occasions when European nations take Russian ships into custody since the Ukraine Invasion, it's frequently with "minesweepers" working as police ships.

Are you somehow tied to the defense sector professionally? I'm just curious, because you seem really, really well versed in all things defence related.

I mean, I guess you could be a bullshitter, I just don't know enough to confirm that. Though you strike me as too polished and subtle for that.

I'm starting to see the problem. The previous minesweepers had names like "Devastator", while these new LCS with the minesweeper attachments don't have names that really put the fear of God into the mines. Come on, Santa Barbara? Are we taking the mines for a lovely wine tasting weekend? Canberra isn't even an American city. Tulsa - ok, Tulsa is a little bit threatening.

Clearly we need to rename these ships. How about the USS ******** Mines Right In The Earhole? Hegseth would be thrilled to deploy that ship. The mission is right there in the name of the ship.

And I was thinking about that. They should be going after Alaska and their oil, but they are only targeting CA and the west coast. According to the FBI.
