LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- Transsexuals were cleared Monday to compete in the Olympics for the first time.

Under a proposal approved by the IOC executive board, athletes who have undergone sex-change surgery will be eligible for the Olympics if their new gender has been legally recognized and they have gone through a minimum two-year period of postoperative hormone therapy.

Just too bizarre. Number one, there can't be many transexual athletes and second what about an unfair advantage for male athletes that crossover to female.

This whole 'inclusiveness' thing is way overboard!

That was my take too. I seriously can't see any world class athlete going through all the necessary procedure just to get a competitive edge for a 2-week event that comes around every 4 years.

Anyway, given that the IOC requires a minimum of 2 years of hormone therapy, any competitive edge for being born with a y-chromosome is negated, it seems:
I couldn't care less either way. Much ado about nothing.
