Welcome! I’m a Columbus Crew fan in MLS, but I have some Scottish heritage. As far as I can tell, my roots trace to Ayrshire, so unless Ayr United gets promoted, I guess that makes me a Killie fan. No glory there! I also support Rangers, as I want to support a Scottish team in Europe, and there’s no way I can get behind the Tims. But I do have a few questions for you. Is Sellick the most supported team in Scotland, and are the Gers second? Which of the two is more hated by fans whose main club is not the other Old Firm club? What is the most liked club outside of the Old Firm—Aberdeen?
Hiya mate! Some good questions you have there and I’ll attempt to answer them the best I can. Celtic vs Rangers, The Hoops vs The Bears, The Old Firm. One of the most famous and heated rivalries in all of world football. To understand Celtic and Rangers we need to dive a little into Scottish history. So as you may know from the movie Braveheart, Scotland and our neighbours England have had beef stemming back more than a 1000 years. There have been countless wars and so on over the centuries with England consistently attacking Scotland in an attempt to remove the Scottish monarchy and merge Scotland into England. Scotland was a heavily Roman Catholic country from around 5th Century AD , however, around the mid 1500’s the Church of Scotland, influenced heavily by the English, decided to break from the Pope. The English themselves had only recently decided to break from the papacy in the early 1500’s when their King Henry VIII decided for his own reasons to break from the papacy and become Protestant. So really from that time we have had a (often deadly) rivalry between the traditional Scottish Catholics and the new Protestants and this is how Celtic and Rangers were born. Celtic = Catholic, Rangers = Protestant. To finally answer question (apologies), Rangers and Celtic have roughly an even split in support in Scotland. They are by far the most supported clubs in the country and no one really comes close. Your 2nd tier clubs would be Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen. Both the Old Firm are equally disliked by the majority of the other clubs that make up the Scottish football pyramid. Apologies for the long winded reply. This is a really simplified version of what’s going on but I hope it answers your question!

Hello there, I'm new to posting on forums, but I hope I'll get the hang of it, I thought there's no better time than right now to start doing something new. I've been reading (more like lurking) this forum for a few years and I hope to make my username more visable

Besides football, I'm into fitness and travel, and I enjoy learning about the history of the game. Looking forward to chatting with all of you and hearing different perspectives!
Hello Everyone, have been reading this forum for a while, as it has some great insight. I've been a football fan since around 2010, but my interest has been more on/off in the last years. I'm also very interested in the history of football and tired of the whole trophy logic in football. Just trying to objectively assess the quality of players and teams. Looking forward to chatting
