I am interested in working for MLS one day on the business side. I am hoping to get an internship this summer at either their corporate office or for any of the individual teams. I have downloaded the Internship Application from MLSNET.com, it says I need to submit a cover letter and resume along with the application. Does anybody have any advice of what they might be looking for in my resume? Also does anyone have any advice of how I might get hooked up with an individual team? Any information or suggestions would be alot of help. Thanks alot.
What they are looking for in interns: 1. Will you work for nothing? 2. Do you speak Spanish? 3. Will you work for nothing? 4. Will you put in unreasonably long hours in hopes of getting a real job? 5. Will you work for nothing? 6. Are you willing to make cold calls to sell tickets? 7. Will you work for nothing?
MLS has pretty low stadards so theyll probably just take anyone who is going to college and studying some sort of sports business. Just state how you like yours major and are big MLS and how it would be perfect if you can marry the two, and that you hope to gain valauble experience on how NOT to do things...
Based on whatever internship you're going out for, try and use the description they offer to write up your objective. As for your cover letter, try and highlight your desire to want to learn as much about a sports organization as possible as well as the fact that you'll be trying to help the promote the growth of soccer through your work, they love hearing that. Oh yeah and be prepared to NOT get paid.
Although most internships are non-paying anyway. You might get college credit though, which helps, and hopefully you can afford to live somewhere within an easy commute to midtown Manhattan. I'd consult with your college's career services center.
I interned at Fox Sports world en espanol. It was a nice internship but I was on the bussiness side of things, ad sales, and didn't get involved as much with the sports aspect. i did meet max Bretos and I am in contact with the broadcasting manger in LA, I wanna work in broadcasting... It was a decent expereince... I am also intrested in working for MLS, but I have heard from many that the internship is just that and if you wanna stay you can, but for nothing.. am 22 going on 23 I graduate next semester... I wouldn't mind taking an internship at MLS, BUT if there is no money at the end of the tunnel, no... Anyone know what the hiring ratio is at MLS??? will they hire???
you might also look at US Soccer for those in Chicago or LA. They are notorious for cheap. thye will take any free labor they can. .
You should try to get a job in the broadcasting aspect of Fox Sports World. They might give you a job doing something like producing.
This is AEG's...it mentions internship qualifications for LA specifically as well as a number of other AEG enterprises: http://staplescenter.teamworkonline.com/teamwork/jobs/default.cfm
Well, that pretty much describes most internships. I don't think that there are many internships out there were your going to get paid. It's mostly to get experience. That is unless your school has some type of co-op program. Most people take internships for credit. So check with your advisor on how that is done. If you want a internship with a specific team, check with them on the internships that are available. I'm not sure what the ratio is for conversion from intern to employee, but it's probably a lot better then that of MLB. Plus if your looking for big pay day for entry level positions in the sports business, you should probably cut back on the bong hits. With the different teams moving into their own stadiums, you'll probably see and expansion of front offices to manage some of the other events going on their.
