Oh sure, these are totally reasonable measures to comply with:

“The DHS has given the University 72 hours to comply with six stringent conditions that, if fulfilled, could reinstate its SEVP certification. These conditions are:

    1. Any and all records, whether official or informal, in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding illegal activity, whether on or off campus, by a non-immigrant student in the last five years. Note that an F-1 or M-1 visa is required for international students to study in American universities, and a J-1 visa is needed for exchange program visitors. All these categories are temporary visas, hence the term nonimmigrant.
    2. Any and all records in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding dangerous or violent activity, whether on or off campus, by a non-immigrant student in the last five years.
    3. Any and all records in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding threats to other students or university personnel, whether on or off campus, by a non-immigrant student in the last five years.
    4. Any and all records in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding deprivation of rights of other classmates or university personnel, whether on or off campus, by a non-immigrant student enrolled in the last five years.
    5. Any and all disciplinary records of all non-immigrant students enrolled in the last five years.
    6. Any and all audio or video footage in the possession of Harvard University of any protest activity involving a non-immigrant student on a Harvard University campus in the last five years.”

I did not say they were easy, I just gave an article that presented the whole story.

I am a little uncomfortable with some of these stipulations but I do not think anyone is in 100% agreement with anyone in politics. At least I am not. I feel for those SAs at Harvard if Harvard does not comply.

    And on a holiday weekend!
It’s called fascism or authoritarianism or at least an illegal attempt at coercion. It’s a violation of Federal Law to provide some of these records even to parents! Call your kids college and try.

from a DHS Secretary that does not even understand the Constitutional right of habeus corpus.

And there are changes to Pell Grants and student loans in the “big bully bill” passed by the House that will have a big negative effect on high-need college kids/families. Let’s see if any R’s in the Senate have a spine. Many went to Ivy League schools.

MAGA literally wants to dumb-down our population.
absolute shi#show our government has become. Never been more embarrassed by the US government in my lifetime.

Well, going through the approval ratings, they’ve not been semi-overwhelmingly positive since Reagan? Basically everyone else is well below 50%.

So, it seems to be that US presidential viewpoints are embarrassing for ~40 years.

    That didn't take long.
One of the most interesting things about going to battle with really smart people is that they are Really Smart. Funny that Harvard almost immediately hired some lawyers that worked for Trump! MAGA and Trump use elementary logic, if they use any, and are getting laughed out of court. The quote by Noem about warning other colleges is being used in court to show the lack of merit in their Harvard decision. Other statements by Trump himself contradict Trump.

Here's a dose of absolute hypocrisy you won't see on Fox or Newsmax. A statement by Tump just from 2024, praising smart International students and saying he would offer them Visas. But everything MAGA has to be us vs them. Awful.

June 2024- Former President Donald Trump proposed “automatically” giving green cards to foreign nationals who graduate from a US college – comments that break from his efforts to curb both legal and illegal immigration while in office and stand in stark contrast to his inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric on the campaign trail.
“What I want to do, and what I will do, is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country,” the presumptive GOP nominee said on “The All-In Podcast,” which aired Thursday.
He continued, “And that includes junior colleges too. Anybody graduates from a college — you go in there for two years or four years. If you graduate, or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country.”

I don’t really put much stock into approval ratings on whether or not a president is doing a good or bad job. We have an incredibly polarized populace and also median voters with the most incoherent set of views imaginable.

What I think is pretty clear about the Trump administration is that they do not care at all about violating norms or laws even. The entire fabric of our constitution is being pushed to the limits by a moronic conman and the entire GOP’s response has been to enable him. Anyone that didn’t has been removed.

I would suggest that the idea this is all totally normal politics as usual is the real recency bias. As the right wing media ecosystem has become more and more unhinged, so too have GOP and their supporters.

As this has continued to spiral out of control as a political thread, the ire and anger should be focused not on the GOP, if you hate them, but to the democrats that allowed a candidate that was incapable of winning to be the candidate opposing Trump. That is how our political system works, like it or not. Two candidates are presented as the future president and the country votes.

This idea is so pervasive, that somehow it’s the Democrats fault for what Republicans choose to do, and it’s completely ridiculous. The GOP have agency, they’re not children. Republicans control all 3 branches of government—Democrats are not responsible for their actions or priorities. Voters have agency as well, this view is total nonsense.

To absolutely no one's surprise, the situation has now been escalated.

US Orders Halt in Student Visa Interviews

Denying institutions of higher education like Harvard, and now others, of international students will have a huge impact on the economy. Everything from local landlords to international research and business.

    Still looking for the greatness.

As I read the Guardian article, your use of "others" is a bit of an understatement. From what the article says, it is all institutions of higher education ... and also all high schools and other organizations that bring foreign students to the US for school. I have a friend who is a member of Rotary, which has a big program that hosts international high school students. If the article is correct, that program is stalled too.

A note on the status of prospective international students seeking visas. According to my alma mater (where I played soccer in ancient times and which currently has very successful men's and women's DIII soccer teams), prosepective international students indeed already are experiencing delays in the visa process.

I don't get it. Making it hard for smart kids to come to the US to study makes no sense at all. Trump just last year talked about how important it was - to have these smart college kids stay here to create IT companies and such, instead of leaving. It helps our economy. Higher Education is one the best examples of American 'exceptionalism'. Most of these Rs running stuff attended Ivy League schools! Even Trump (apparently). Ironically, it was Biden that was a State-school guy. Jill teaching JuCo kids for God's sake. But somehow the Dems or progressives are the elitists?

Is it just to apply more filters to keep out lefties? or anti-maga folks? How many Chinese or Indian or European students even know much or care about American politics and ideology? So many are just STEM or computer geeks (or athletes) that want to learn from the best they can.

Is it just a straight fascist move to control higher ed? To manage free speech and dissent? to Make America Dumb Again? Like the books canceled at the military academies?

Clearly, it's not about anti-semitism. No Jewish student leaders or Jewish faith leaders are asking for additional vetting. Not at Harvard or anywhere I've heard. I've never ever heard of a Chinese or Indian anti-semite! But a whole lot of 'em work in our Health and IT industries and make a lot of things work in America.

There was recent post here by someone I have on ignore. Let me guess, negative and adding no value? Probably even attacking someone.

Click on the username and select 'ignore'. Some folks are just in that bottom 1/3 and need to be ignored. Unfortunate, but you can't let those folks get to you.

MAGA battle with the courts rages on. Someone mentioned how immigrant HS students also will be affected and there's a story today about a young kid in NY that was arresting literally walking out of the court house by ICE when the judge dismissed his immigration case. His lawyers were not present and they had a hard time finding him as he was transferred in the ice detention system a few times. He was in the country legally and awaiting that hearing but nabbed walking out of the court house.

SCOTUS did decide that the Feds could reclassify about 500K immigrants taking away the "protected status" they had under the Biden admin.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is really a misnomer. I loathe the guy yet that loathing does not affect my day to day living.

Those that truly have TDS are many of his supporters. There are several houses that I occasionally drive by that have Trump flags that are still up. Some of them are flying above the stars & stripes. One house has had the same Trump flag up since 2016. Along with that flag is another that says “Trump, f*ck your feelings” and a sign stating something about Hillary for jail. It’s 2025, get over it. Those are the people that truly have TDS.

Just a brief comment and then I'll stay with the topic: What you describe is a violation of the US Flag Code. The Code is strictly aspirational, there's no penalty for violating it, for obvious free speech reasons.

Violations of the Flag Code are common, by those from both sides of the political spectrum. I don't like the violations, but I don't have FC derangement syndrome.:)
