Wow. that's fast. Too fast. MLS playoffs aren't even done then. But I'll never turn a USMNT match down if it's so.
Damn, I was hoping for a bigger test like Mexico or Canada. Hopefully they are our Wales equivalent, & El Salvador our Panama. Don't think there's much to learn from playing the latter.
Yep....really bad timing....why don't they wait until the MLS playoffs are over? Isn't that the whole point of scheduling a match for the MLS-based players?
I wonder if December will be it, or if we'll try to throw something together for January or early February too
Yea, El Salvador are the worst in CONCACAF about the dark arts. Make Honduras look like angels. Stomps, nut shots, punches, etc.
This has been a historically weird year, and next year is chock-full of important matches with a very young side. We need as many games and camps to vet and incorporate all these players from both sides of the Atlantic and gel as we can possibly devise, even if it's against the normal schedule. And that includes the coach as well as the players, really. If Gregg still has any weird misconceptions about players and systems left in his mind after this, he needs the opportunity to exorcise them before the games count. I mean, we can all whine away about him, but he is our manager until the cycle's over for us, without any real doubt.
I don't follow Yanks Abroad as closely as I used to, but this will also take place while most Liga MX teams are on break. Anyone noteworthy playing south of the border? I know Alvarado was playing well in the spring, but I haven't followed him since
If you're asking about Johansson, his team plays their final game 3 days before this. So I wouldn't count on it, but he's a good shout for January Camp
I'd add that while people here don't really seem to, US Soccer really does care about the Olympics. With two vaccines coming out at 90%+ efficacy, and likely more to come, and Japan/IOC's full steam ahead attitude, we're having an Olympics. I would not be shocked to see these December and January camps be as much U23 camps as senior team camps. I believe qualifying is still in March and will be an All-MLS affair, I expect.
This is a real twofer--you get all the challenge of an underwhelming opponent with the high risk of career-ending injury thanks to their dirty play. Seriously though I am so goddamn starved for MNT soccer I'd stay up to watch us play Gibraltar at 4am so I'll happily take it.
Why would it be an all MLS affair if it’s qualifying and on a fifa date. If players across the world cant travel the games will be pushed.
Olympic Qualifying and the Olympics themselves are not FIFA events and therefore players do not need to be released. The Olympics are happening in July / August, pending even more disastrous situations than today. They aren't going to push them again. Qualification needs to happen at some point before then. Or perhaps CONCACAF just sends some teams without it.
