I have no idea where half the folks in midfield are going to be positioned ...hopefully it's not the same for the players.
Steffen Yedlin-Miazga-CCV-Villafana Trapp Delgado-Nagbe Adams-Wood-Saief Adams, Nagbe, Delgado could be switched around in some formation here, but otherwise, I think the rest is straight forward.
With both teams dressing 20 players, the healthy scratches from the game-day roster are goalkeeper Alex Bono and midfielder Kekuta Manneh. Midfielder Weston McKennie is nursing a groin injury and is also not dressed for the match.
For somebody who doesn’t know anything about Delgado, what type of player is he and what should we watch for?
He’s the one player in the lineup that I don’t think belongs in the starting 11. He hardly sees the ball at Toronto, and when he does he doesn’t do much with it. Last season he seemed to have more of an impact, but it’s still early. Would rather see Adams take his place and put Weah on for where Adams is playing. Hoping we don’t see Hamid or Roldan since we know what they’re capable of.
Well Delgado is taking Mckennies spot, the guy I wanted to see the most. Was looking forward to watching our duo in the center play with eachother
This is complicated. I am describing how AC Milan would play their CM. They won the CL using these high level tactics. If you want easy go with the 4-4-1-1 I suggested prior to the T&T game. Part of making a substantive critique is offering an alternative course of action. Nagbe is not confronted with just 2 opponents, he is confronted with 3. Two near the center circle and a fullback moving to overlap. Think of your alternative. What happens if the guy on the ball decides to take the (now even larger) space in front of him because Nagbe has shaded to defend an overlap 60 yards from goal?
Delgado is a keep it simple type of CM. He can be a good passer at times and does a lot of 1-2 touch which could translate well in the fast pace of international play. He's looked better than Roldan recently imo.
What exactly does this mean? He should be marking the space in front of 3 players spaced out over 50 yards?
Better going forward. Looks like a 4-3-3 to me: -------------------------------Steffen---------------- --------------Miazga------------------CCV------------ ----Yed--------------------------------------------Jorge---- ---------------------------Trapp------------------------------- ------------------Adams--------Delgado------------------- ------Nagbe-------------------------------------Saif----------- --------------------------Wood-----------------------------------
Hopefully we see Andrija, Weah, Roldan,, Rubin, EPB, and Robinson in the 2nd half. Let's see what they can do!
Again, moving wider left opens up the entire center of the field, the most dangerous area of the field because that is where the goal is. How are these not just ex post facto arguments meant to prevent a highly unlikely event that came to pass?
'would have thought this was most likely ----------------nagbe -----adams-------------Delgado ----------------trapp (Delgado's got himself a hider for first option in transition, lol). I guess since it's sarachan, he seems to like 451 and not thinking of Saief as forward so, ---Saief-----Nagbe----Trapp---Delgado----Adams Hopefully get Nagbe out of there early.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x642tn4 This is wrong. As I said at the time Nagbe's biggest fault is not closing down hard enough.
not enough creativity in center of midfield....don't understand the logic behind 3 dmids in a meaningless friendly.....(unless all the coach cares about is grinding out a defensive result to somehow argue to be made full-time coach later on...which would be ridiculous)...at some point....us soccer needs to realize that sport is also meant to entertain.
My Gosh, not even waiting for him to play a second pro game? I hope you are related or else you better check yourself
Actually when a teammate fails to cover a critical area of the field it is incumbent on a player in a cover position to fill that space. The basic function of the 3 CM's in a diamond is that when the guys on one side get sucked to the ball the weakside CM drops central to cover the space in front of the CB's. You want to cede the center of the field, with 2 attackers, one on the ball, to defend a potential fullback overlap? That was the right answer to the question asked before the goal? You're not arguing based on hindsight?
