The big problem with this 3-4-3 is that for this formation requires very apt centre-backs and wing-backs. For example, the main holding defender, not only has to distribute passes like Ki, but also act as an enforcer to basically dominate any loose ball coming to our half, which Ki isn't that good at. The only player I can think of in AFC who can do that is Aaron Mooy.

Then the other two CBs, they have to be pacey since their job is to cover for the wing backs on the counter, as well as doing their usual role, and given that our CBs can't even do their normal role, it makes no sense to do this.

Lastly, for the WBs, we need pacey and attacking-minded players, but also have to be an absolute workhorse to get back and defend when called upon. We have noone like that.

So, the verdict? Try this sh*t against cr*ppy SEA nations but not when it actually matters.

1. It's too late to play a 3 back system. But STY is too stubborn to accept this simple fact. KMW was horrible playing as a LWB whereas he's serviceable as a LB. Two fundamental mistakes by him led to a goal. But forget those 2 goals for a minute. KSY completely missed runs behind him twice, which should have led to goals. And YYS, after putting in a decent shift, could not maintain discipline in the high line we were playing. Overall, it's suicidal to play this 3 back system when STY has not even decided which defenders should be starting.

2. KSY and SHM. STY's job is rather straightforward compared to other managers. He has two pillars to build his team around. His job is to accentuate the best traits of both. STY is failing at his job. As mentioned by @ChaDuRi67, KSY was more useful in the sequence of play at the end of the match when he said fck it and brought the ball up into midfield. STY killed the effectiveness of KSY today. SHM, on the other hand, needs to do less. What we need for him is to finish. Nothing more. He shouldn't be taking set pieces. He shouldn't be trying to be a playmaker. He also shouldn't be trying to shoot when he doesn't have a shot or his teammate has an unmarked opportunity. STY needs to manage SHM and not let him kill the chemistry of this squad.

3. JWY. He did very well today. And he was better than KJC. At the same time, it was at the expense of KSY. So what's better? Deploy tactics so that JWY has a good match or KSY has a good match? Hmmm. Anyway, if and when we switch formations to a 4 back system, I hope JWY keeps this up. He has a shot at becoming Skeletor in WC10 next to KSY.

4. KJC. Huge disappointment. I'll just leave it at that.

5. KMW. What the fck was that? If he's too fatigued to play two matches in succession, then what use is he in the WC? He's also clearly uncomfortable and unable to play as a LWB in a 3 back system. LJS saved him countless number of times tonight.

6. LJS and HHC. Thank goodness we have the two of them. We would have been screwed otherwise.

7. Best CB pairing currently. KKW and JSH imo.

8. STY. Useless. He seems to have this fantasy that we can playing a high pressure, pressing game for an entire 90 minutes. I was ok seeing KSY as part of the back 3 at first, because I thought we would ease off and alternative between a 3-4-1-2 and a 4-1-4-1. We simply cannot play a frenetic style for 90 minutes. Eventually, with a back 3, we begin to look like a poor version of the NorKs. STY lacks the ability to adjust. It's a fundamental flaw. He should be allowing KSY to push forward when needed and let the team shape change as KSY dictates on the pitch. Instead, we saw KSY pinned for 88 minutes at the back. What a complete tactical failure. Moreover, STY has an inability to time substitutions. He was at least 10 minutes too late with his substitutions. What a complete wasted opportunity against the best opponents we've lined up for our WC prep matches.

9. KSW. I almost forgot. Useless. Add MSM in there as well.

When Australia was playing 3ATB we still drew with Thailand. Just AFC teams are not good enough for this formation.

I would just play a back 4 as we don't have the time to play a back 3. It's at least the formation the team is more comfortable in and more suite for SHM and KSY

Thank god we had Hiddink back in 2002. There were moments during the Cho Kwang-rae era where it seemingly looked good, especially with the rise of Hong Jeong-ho who was a potential libero option, but it was too good to be true. We not only lack defenders for 3ATB, but we also lack a manager who has the proper tactics and utilization.

Well, this should be a warning bell for a NT manager. Sure, in club football you can sign players to fit your tactics and philosophy. In NT, you have to do with what you have, you have accommodate and tailor tactics to the resources you have, not the other way around. Smh.

Yeah I suspect 10:00 AM KST as that is the usual time for making squad announcements. In 2010, Huh Jung-moo made the announcement right after the match with Ecuador ended.
