Fyi Glenn's column in today's Chron is also about the InterLiga finals at Reliant: Interliga set to encore at Reliant
Re: Fyi If they had over fifty thousand there for the matches last year, how many do you think they could have for the finals? I know some will depend on what teams end up there. I'd like to get some good tickets for myself. bford
Interesting tidbit from the article: Earlier rounds of the Interliga will be played in San Jose, Calif., Carson, Calif., Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix. Looks like Spartan Stadium, The Home Depot Center, The Cotton Bowl, the Alamo Dome and Bank on Ballpark.
Here are a few of the match-ups Sun, Jan 2, 2005 01:00 PM (Local) Chivas Guadalajara (Mexico) @ Santos (MX) Bank One Ballpark, Phoenix Sun, Jan 2, 2005 03:30 PM (Local) Tigres (MX) @ Atlante (MX) Bank One Ballpark , Phoenix
Add this to the schedule: SUN JAN 2, 2005 HOME DEPOT CENTER GAME 1 5PM GAME 2 7:30PM WED JAN 5 2005 SPARTAN STADIUM 7:00 PM SANTOS VS TIGRES 9:30 PM CHIVAS VS ATLANTE SAT JAN 8, 2005 HOME DEPOT CENTER GAME 1 6PM GAME 2 8:30PM
Preview at El Estadio Robertson Just FYI: From today's Glenn columnMmmm...Taqueria Arandas... Btw, I guess this schedule means that the groups are: America, Toluca, Necaxa, Jaguares and Chivas, Tigres, Santos, Atlante I suppose the best-case scenario for attendance on Jan. 12 would involve America, Toluca, Chivas and Tigres. I think that would get a big house, even on a Weds night. The worst-case scenario would probably be Necaxa, Jaguares, Santos, Atlante - that would probably look more like a Rice or UH home game.
A couple more Interliga-related bits: From today's Glenn Davis column in the Chron. (The show streams live over the internet, and is also available on archive, at www.kpft.org.) Also: Article about yesterday's game at Robertson featuring America and Santos. And as long as we're at it, there's also a nice piece in the Chron by John Lopez about inner-city youth and soccer in Houston: More than a sport.
I picked up my tickets yesterday. $25 for a ticked behind the goal (i prefer that view to the sideline view and the price is better) directly from the stadium box office, thus negating the ticketbastard charges. Good price for 2 games. Section 137 row S, seats 1 and 2. Anybody else here going, It would be nice to meet some other houston area BSers. mike
[NDR] InterLiga 01/04/06 updates The InterLiga will come to Houston again on Jan. 4 at Reliant Stadium. It's a doubleheader with Cruz Azul x Necaxa and Chivas x Tigres. They'll get a nice crowd with Chivas and Tigres, so hopefully Oliver Luck can persuade Jamey Rootes to do some cross-promotion with MLS Houston, or at least get a good deal to blare some announcements. InterLiga 2006: Cruz Azul replaces Toluca, Houston Chronicle 12/20
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates Glenn Davis discusses the upcoming InterLiga games in Houston in his column in today's Chron: InterLiga bringing top Mexican players
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates I would like to go to this.. but I have to stay home and watch Texas play USC.. Look forward to reading about it here and in the paper though.
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates I'll be working at Reliant that night to promote Team Houston. I am recording the USC-Texas Title Game and will avoid all TV's that night till I get home. I just hope that on the ride home I won't see any down and out Longhorn fans or Longhorn fans partying like its 1999! That's the trick!
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates I was worried they might announce the score there or show it on the board somewhere.. believe me I have TIVO and I know how to use it... rock bford
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates It' really the poveity of MLS helps develop the national team faster and better then if we where spending $$$ on foregin players like have the people on these boards want MLS to do.
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates Just more FYI in case anyone missed it - Glenn will probably be giving away some free tickets on his radio show Tuesday night. ... Here's a good overview from Bernardo Fallas in Tuesday's Soccer Page in the Chron: Much is at stake in this week's InterLiga showdowns
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates Here's today's article in the Chron from Bernardo Fallas - interesting thoughts about coaching in Mexico with a focus on the clubs playing here, plus some additional notes about tonight's games: Dilemma for coaches: vanquish or perish Today's sports page at Rumbo has several pieces in Spanish.

My e-mail is penwyth@hotmail.com The catch is that I haven't picked them up from the radio station office and they'll need to be picked up by 5pm. I'll send you all the details in the e-mail. Thanks and enjoy the matches. Brad
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates Just got back from the games. Two pretty good games for $25. Attendance was 25K. Total of 9 goals scored. Gaitan is a magician.
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates It was fun - the Tigres and Chivas organized supporters' groups were great. Here's the Chron's report on Necaxa x Cruz Azul - they may have more on Tigres x Chivas later.
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates I had a grand time! The night cap was the better of the two matches. Both Civas and Tigres had their Hinchadas out in full force. I was taking a break from my working duties and having a burger when all of a sudden I was swarmed by the Hinchada Tigres! I was in one moment taking in the Nex-Cruz Azul match in a passive section to then being smack dab in the middle of drums, trumpets and actual songs of club devotion. That's why I love this game. I was in heaven. I've been going to these CL play-ins since Houston first got them in '98. They always are worth the coin. One thing to always remember is that these Mexican clubs come down from elevation.....their lungs are primed for a match. It shows in that these CL play-in double headers are played at a very faster pace than seen in La Liga Mexicana proper. Not to mention that the stakes are massive for the CL which adds to the veiwing value. On the downer however is that I again saw very very few "suburban" soccer kids and or their dads. It goes to prove my belief that our U.S. suburban soccer culture delivers no premium to the lads. Their dads have no following of the beautiful game, mommie is their weekly chauffeur, they wear $150 cleats at age 10 and the kids grow up to be suburban soccer pu$$ies with no passion and connection to the pro or International game. That will probably never change. MLS has always wondered why that market can be so massive in participation but so unbelievably aloof to being counted on to buy tickets when very high quality futbol is in town.
Re: OT -- InterLiga 01/04/06 updates Here are the AP stories on both games. Today's Rumbo also has match reports from last night. ... Btw, they had some good publicity for the MLS team -- PA announcements in Spanish and English, signboards, plus flyers in Spanish and English with info on how to get tix (Celt, were you one of the folks handing those out?).
