    Taken from MLSnet.com Clean Sheet:

Morelia and Pachuca will hook-up for 2002 CONCACAF Champions Cup next week in Mexico City. According to reports, the final was originally scheduled to be a home-and-home series, but both clubs requested to play only one game.

I'll be rooting for Pachuca so that we can say we got beat by the best in the tournament.

Can you imagine European clubs telling UEFA that they'd decided not to play the full schedule of Champions League games? Of course, since there's no tv money, what's the incentive?

    It did seem kinda bush-league.

Isn't this only the second year of the tournament? It's kinda hard to get excited about a new regional tournament if they seem to dissolve quickly (Giants Cup, MercoNorte).

It'll get steam once it has a few years under the belt, and they aren't beating MLS teams 6-1 (KC v ?).

This tournament has been played since the early 60's. The Mexican teams don't care all that much because there is no money in it, so they don't want to play two games while they are busy with their league as well as the Copa Libertadores qualifying tournament.

Simple: Hold a regional Champions League and a Cup Tournament. Noah, thought you were in LA for the game...

It will get better with time though the Central American teams have been around more than the MLS clubs, which contributed to them advancing. MLS teams will need to learn how to play in the hardened conditions of Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica.

Does this "hardened conditions" mean cultivating the ability to withstand having batteries and cups of urine thrown at you?

Wow...somehow that's hardly surprising. Really gross though.

    elainemichelle,
That's what happens when the US Nats play in places like Guatemala (our friend, Carlos Ruiz, is a major culprit on that stage).
One of the reasons I hope the Quakes pound his ass tonight.

That and overzealous fans--might as well throw the lions in. It's too bad because skill becomes moot and it all becomes a mental game, both playing and dealing with the surroundings.
