Interesting Tidbit (Revs Boradcast Team) Just had an interesting conversation with a gentleman having ties to individuals associated with MLS and U.S. Soccer. He indicated that a training seminar is taking place today (in NY I believe) where members of or individuals associated with each MLS clubs' respective audio & video broadcast teams will be meeting with troops from League HQ. Apparently areas to be touched upon include on-camera presentation skills, one-on-one interviews, and other efforts geared towards soccer media training. Guess which MLS club is the only one not sending participants or representatives? The Magpie
Re: Interesting Tidbit (Revs Boradcast Team) I can't beleive how cheap those Costa Ricans are, not paying for something like this. Did they expect the Krafts to pony up the money themselves? How many home games will we have to sell off just to get through the month of March? Sorry, I got a little ahead of myself. Which MLS club isn't sending anyone?
Why the hell should they? You know how much it costs to go to New York from here? What, do you think money grows on trees or something? These guys should walk, but they'd never get there by today, so forget about that. And why do you a guy like Meterparel even needs to learn about the game? All he has to do is substitute football terms, like the time some guy "dribbled down to the 25-yard line." Tom
Which MLS club isn't sending anyone? Well, that would be the Revolution, and apparently the reason is cost. Sounds like yet another example of the Revolution cutting costs. But how many corners will they cut before they realize they're going around in circles? The Magpie
I can see why Adrian and Brad Feldman and Doug Chapman can skip the meeting, but METER?!?!?!? I can't decide if Meterparel or Stearns is the bigger embarrassment as a radio play-by-play guy. One one hand, Meter DOES actually say things like, "Hernandez to the 40; cuts left at the 35..." But on the other hand, I've never heard Meter refer to a clearance from a defender as "icing the ball". Is it too much to ask to find a guy to call the games that at least knows the rules and terminology?
Ok Even I will say that this is a stupid move WTF ! It can't even cost that much to drive - make Meter do it and let the rest of the folks rest
yeah sure, meter says things like "munchkin in the mesh"....but, hands down, stearns was a complete embarassment. on the radio back in nov., he told me i had to admit "he brought emotion to the table". i told him "this call is about the sox announcers...i'd rather not get into your calling of the revs right now". true, i have a hard time listening to meter....but with stearns, i turned the radio volume all the way down on the so i could just concentrate on the game.
PLEASE tell me you're kidding! I thought "biscuit in the basket" was bad. (It actually haunts me. I can't make it go away!)
