This comes from the boards over on kcwizards.com: "I am trying to get in touch with somebody in The Cauldron for a possible publicity stunt. I work for 1340 K.C.K.N. the flag ship station for the K.C. Comets. We do a show every Monday from 5 pm to 6 pm, myself and Nick Vassos. It is a show for the Comets and the MISL. One thing Kemper is lacking at Comets games is the soccer like atmosphere, I believe the Cauldron embodies that electricity, we would like to talk about this enthusiasm on the air. We would also put together a package for the Cauldron to come to a game (on us),... please respond theevoice@hotmail.com" Interesting indeed... I think I might be interested in going. Even better would be if we could find a game that was going to be televised later on FSW.
I think this is a great chance. Someone, I dont care who, get on this. I'll come over if at all possible. I know this is pinball (as Spoon would say), but its an invitation for us to introduce what we do. People have noticed, and the more we do, the more they notice. I said a long time ago, and still stand firm, that we wont force people to do what we do. But over time they'll see us doing our thing and want to join in. This is a great opportunity for the Comets to get some people to show their fans what atmosphere is, while we get free publicity in the soccer community. Win-win situation.
Their colors are blue with orange and grey (yes, grey, ugh!). Somehow, the home unis they wear are white with blue numbers and black shorts. I'm in for this event. I'd encourage everyone to get with this deal. It's a good game most nights, always entertaining, and the players (and refs) will hear every word you say if you are behind net or on the sides close to the glassless boards. It's hard to beat the price. The basement bar is open post-game also. Don't be swayed by characterizations of the MISL version of soccer as "pinball". It would be just as accurate to label MLS soccer as "boring" or "low scoring". Both statements miss the point completely.
If we decide to do this, I'm definitely in. We do need to convince them that putting us in the "Battle Zone" seats is important, so that we can effectively "razz" the opposition.
It would be great, but it might not happen as tix are $35 and can be grouped with dinner for $50. Seats a row or two behind offer the same razzing chance.
Some seem to be missing the "on us" part. I'd think the Cauldron would be where ever they paid for it to be.
I think that for publicity's sake alone, we shouldn't have any trouble getting BZ seats. The Comets would probably jump at the chance to get some (any) converts from the outdoor game, and 1340 as the flagship station of the Comets would like the publicity. I think this is also an opportunity for us to get some converts to the Wizards, and particularly the Cauldron. The only thing I worry about is being able to out-chant the music.
And to think that not that long ago it was the complete opposite. I remember going to a lot of sold-out Steamers at the Old Barn on Oakland Ave. (The Arena). They had better attendence than the Blues, but to be fair, the Blues organization was in total shambles at the time (they are only in minor shambles now )
I can't go because I hate the indoor game so much, but I wish you well, and let's get the wizards on radio somewhere!
Interesting piont. It's hard to imagine that the indoor team can get radio coverage for their team, yet the outdoor team with all the "stars" cant get it. Anyone have a reasonable explanation?
I can, it is called buying radio time. It would be nice for the Wiz to do the same but I would rather see them spend there money on advertising.
The above post, time, and number of meaningful games. Advertisers have more breaks, in-game ads, a longer period of game time, and more games to utilize. Ben mentioned "stars". Fair point. Still, KC's only ad-worthy star is Tony. That's why he has the radio gigs. Nobody else would even come close to being recognisable off the field. Not Preki, not even Wolff. Sure we know them, but not Joe sixpack.
