Just read this from the Combine report: Hudson said, “I think we’ve made some nice trades with Kovalenko and the Bulgarian coming in..." http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/combine0113notes.html Does he have another Bulgarian that he scouted over the winter or is the a verbal gaffe before anything was announced?
So, since Hristo is not under contract, and we probably won't be keeping him around... When will he just go away?
Hala Madrid pointed out the fact that we lost Nowak's allocation when we traded him. We also lost our allocations when we cut Podbrozny and Kosecki. Can we still get an allocation as part of a trade for Hristo?
Troll, you must be a little off today. "we'll" is spelled w-e-'-l-l, not y-o-u-'-l-l, and "we" is spelled w-e, not y-o-u. Even with Hristo Jr. and Mr. Red Card, you will still be at the bottom of the East. Sorry.
I believe the rumour was that a condition of Ivanov to DC was that Hristo go and be a coach there...I don't think I started it
If the league even gives an allocation. They've been so arbitrary lately... who knows what will happen. The Jerzy/Roman thing is BS too, because Valderramma was cut by Colorado...and they got an allocation. What's that all about? Hristo was the mysterious half-allocation we got from SJ. The condition of a half-allocation was that we wouldn't recieve an allocation when he retired. MLS has done that with full allocations, though, so who the heck knows. It seems they are now trying to set down more hard and fast rules about it, so all that may be a thing of the past.
It's not a "time" per se, but remember back before the salary cap deadline? There was some logistical concern holding up the Stoitchkov move. Once that obstacle goes away, conventional wisdom is that he will, too, as nobody ever came out and said the deal was dead, official or otherwise. I'm assuming we still need some more room to actually *sign* the players we draft, P-40s notwithstanding. Peter did say we were only $1 under the cap. Which is why I'm starting to figure that we take Diego Walsh with the #3 pick, and then DC takes Mike Magee with either #5 or #11. Later, COZ
Soon, soon, soon I am hearing that the obstacle should be removed very soon. Which then lets the rest of these announcements flow.
Which would end up as which? : We keep Walsh and send Hristo to DC for the 5/11 pick (Magee)? or We draft Walsh, and he and Hristo to DC for the 5/11 pick (Magee) and some other draft pics. or We draft Walsh, he and Hristo go to DC for their 5th and 11th picks...taking Magee with one of them.
I recall said statement, and that Peter could neither confirm nor deny that he counted towards the cap. That said, count me a pessimist where we get Walsh but miss Magee...
Stephen Goff is saying the Stoichkov trade looks likely though he doesn't say wht you guys would be getting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A56535-2003Jan14.html
