Lets take it to 'em, boys! If ever there was a time for an explosive performance to serve notice to Europe, this is it. The Boro match is behind us now and a berth in the CL quarters awaits -- it's still in the hands of the Toon, if they want it bad enough.

    I can't wait!

    Howay the lads!

That was, quite possibly, the worst job by a referee I have ever seen in my life.

I'm still trying to figure out how Vieri got his head to the ball for his goal.

A tough job getting through to the quarterfinals now. Best of luck and hopefully Inter can't get a win in Germany.

Absurd would be the word I'd use to descirbe the officiating at this match. Truly stunning. What exactly did Shearer get booked for other than playing for Newcastle?

Typical biased officiating toward Serie A clubs. The same thing happened in Newcastle.

The fiascoes that happened during the FK at injury-time were incredible. UEFA should at least ban that CR from officiating the rest of the CL season.

I can't speak about the match in Newcastle, but this guy stunk on calling either side for pretty much anything.

I'm amazed there weren't any very serious injuries, given some of the tackles.

I believe he wasn't the required 10 yards from the kicking spot.A major infraction in the refs eyes it would seem.

Meanwhile back in the game a near riot breaks out and the ref waves play on...........

Good game though and very well played by the toon.

I have to agree here. At the beginning, with Zanetti not getting the calls, I thought there was some bias towards Inter. As the game went on, I realized the guy was just horrible. I couldn't believe a guy like that could be in a match that big.

    aye.

    toon dive - yellow card
inter dive - ??????? no card???? even the announcers were stunned at the refs.

so now, they need to beat barca next week and hope Leverkusen win.

    ugh.

    ref had no control.

but wouldn't they book shearer for delay of game, rather than not being 10 yards? just tell him to back up. if he doesn't back up, book him for delay, or not listening to the ref.

I'm still trying to figure out why Bellamy was carded for diving when I think he didn't.

And am also trying to figure out what Shearer got carded for. Great goals by him. I guess retiring from international play does wonders.

Horrible officiating, and not just about bias, but letting the match going to a near riot.

Our favorite Toon Website has an accurate description of what happened in Milan, including an incident that nearly injured many Newcastle supporters:

I remember the camera turned to see that flare in the crowd. They made no mention of it being thrown by anybody.I just though that they had lit it themselves.
    Scary stuff.

Are these the nutters that threw the motor bike from the upper stands a few years back?

The game at home has come on in leaps and bounds since i was a regular-dressed in skinner haircut, denin jacket, dyed blue t-shirt, jeans and 16 hole Docs-but they seem to be regressing to the dark days of English hooliganism.

    Shame really.

Watched the match w/my 11month old girl!

The refs were garbage. Everytime I watch Champions League, I get this sickening feeling that Spain and Italy have paid the refs to guarantee English clubs defeat.

Alan Sherer was a GOD!!! What is in the water up in Newcastel-Upon-Tyne? Man he is really eating his Wheaties this season..lol.

I always cheer Premiership clubs in International competition.

I think you guys also have a beef about the yellow shown to Bramble for "handling" the ball. That was pretty lame too. Ironically, the very lameness of the call means the ref was consistent, now that I think about it.

Clanblue, I think it was Lazio supporters that through the flaming scooter from the upper deck, but I could be wrong.

What do you mean 'nearly' injured some newcastle supporters? I was there and about 20 fans, including, myself had to leave after Shearer scored his second. They thru bottles from ther tier about that smashed and sprayed into peoples legs. Not to mention the piss and flares that also came down. I've been to all of the away Champ League games and all the other fans have been great. Milan is suppost to be a cultured and friendly city but they do that to fans. Take a lesson from Kiev, Leverkusen, Feynoord, Barcelona and Juve.

Why the hell did Shearer get the yellow at the end too? Either way it was a chaotic match and the ref did a piss poor job of calling the game.

OK! This game sold me onto Newcastle. I'm hooked.

Bellamy and Bernard are outstanding, constantly making stuff happen. Two extremely exciting players to watch. Hopefully Bellamy gets his head screwed on straight, cause he is magic on the field, with and without the ball.

Bramble, Solana, Givens and Jenas all play with tons of personality. I don't need to say anything about Shearer that you don't already know.

I've only seen a couple of Newcastle games, as our local soccer cover focuses on ManU, Real and occasionally Arsenal, Blackburn or Chelsea. All entertaining to watch, but nothing like Newcastle.

    Good luck in the CL.
