Really solid job by the manager and the team, in the most difficult of circumstances. Kudos all around, please let's try to build on this. Get to January and hopefully get some reinforcements.
“It was all I could ask for,” Slot said. “The fourth game in 10 days, I’m not sure you see that a lot in football, with only 14 outfield players available with Premier League or Champions League experience, after the blow we had conceding the 3-3 in Leeds, then to go into this stadium against such a strong Inter team – we couldn’t have asked for more. “We hardly gave away a chance. The first one came just before half‑time after we had to accept a referee’s decision [to disallow an Ibrahima Konaté goal] that could have gone any way, but that’s been the story of our season. “We showed a great mentality. We were close to scoring with Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitiké, then we get a penalty that if that was a penalty we would have had 10 this season.”
watching the penalty again - it was such a comical fall BUT BUT BUT If he doesn't do that, there is probably no penalty and the shirt tug goes unpunished. Fine Margins!
Yes! Bring them back! And actually, BvB supporter of a lifetime as well. I've sung YNWA many times at our stadium before matches. Klopp learnt to sing it there first
Yeah the PK was weak. But pull a guys shirt in the box is asking for one. That “first goal” of ours comes under the heading. “I’ve seen them given” Especially against us. We actually played a lot better than I expected. Entertaining game as well. In the last couple of games Jonesy has really stepped up. He and Dom were really good out there today.
That defender though he could do it with impunity as Inter had been getting away with worse all game long, both in earning soft fouls an and committing egregious one.
as for the pen - well done Wirtz. to hell with "never a pen in the PL" - THAT is the problem, not the fact it was given yesterday. agree re Jones, he was superb (in his "natural" role). nothing special from Dom - just his normal MOTM performance.
Hate to hammer on about the penalty. But the ref and his TV counterpart saw exactly what we saw. Probably better. They saw the tug that pulled Wirtz off balance, then the delay followed by the butterfly fluttering to the ground. They gave the PK for the tug not for the dramatics. That was for the Oscars. I’ll bet they got a laugh out of it as well. Our no goal (again) giving that in the San Siro!? Don’t make me laugh again.
another team in red that appears to be terrible!! Also - more red issues: Terps football - catastrophic, Terps basketball - looks rough, Terps Soccer - flameout with a home final 8 game.
I think someone noted earlier that the win yesterday is huge for seeding purposes as well. We have a chance to win our next 2 for sure - 1 away and 1 home. Even if we got 4 points from the 2 - I think we would sneak into the top 8 and avoid the 2 extra "playoff" games. The twist - these games aren't for 5 weeks (Jan 21 - away Marseille and Jan 28 - home to Qarabag). Who knows how we will be playing by then and if we will have bought reinforcements.
Big win, but not that bothered about getting top 8. Last year we fought and clawed to get first only for the prem to schedule two difficult aways during those midweeks. Let's finish in the top 24 (almost guaranteed) and then see where we are in February.
Well, once (after a passage of time) they do see it hit his arm and change velocity or direction, then it was a clear error. The use of the word obvious does seem to only help obfuscate though
Maybe he could have ran 90 minutes yesterday....?? who knows? an idea becomes prevalent and it tends to gain its own steam after a while.... I remember watchig Sboz gassed in a game last year - and he was our fittest player
