We just had a discussion about referee shoes, there I stated that I like to wear black running/trail shoes for better support and cushioning. However, when doing higher games or in a more formal setting I mostly wear the Adidas Team Mundial or adiNovas. While they have great leather uppers and great outsoles, they are not the most comfortable shoes when you are doing multiple games per day. They do not have much support since I overpronate quite a bit (roll my ankles inwards). I was told to look at some insoles, but everything I tried so far seems to be too big or bulky. A friend suggested that I try the superfeet insoles. I wonder if anybody have any experience with them (or any other brand). They seem to offer 3 options, Black, blue and green (different thickness). My question is which one I should go with and should I remove the insoles that come with the shoes? They are glued and I wonder if removing them will cause any structural damage to them. AdiNovas
I use the blue ones in my Mundials and I have had good luck with them. I always loved Superfeet from my track and cross country days. Not as "cushy" as some of the insoles out there, but they correct a lot of problems and I've noticed fewer injuries using them. Regardless of the shoe type, I've always been told the stock insoles are pretty much garbage after the first 100 miles. I found that for fit and comfort, I had to tear out the insoles. I would test it out and see what you think. If you cut the superfeet to fit snugly, you might be able to get away with leaving the stock insole in there.
Not sure about the insoles on those particular shoes, but in terms of the insole that I install in my shoes, I use the Powerstep ProTech insoles. With my Lotto's I kept the original insoles in because even though they were total crap they at least added an 1/8th inch of something and kept the rand/upper/outsole stitching more protected. These were recommended to me by the foot doc for the USMNT. I'm also an overpronater, and found these worked better than the custom orthodic (from a non-soccer foot doc, apparently there is a diff) and the Green Superfeet I had been using.
I haven't had a chance to try them on yet. But what's the difference between the black and the blue inside the shoes? does one feel thicker than the other?
Superfeet are designed as replacements, not to go on top of the existing insole. (I started using them in various shoes due to platar facitis [sp?], and they seemed to help quite a bit. I use the green b/c that's what a couple of people recommended - don't know anything about the different colors.)
The first thing I do with every pair of shoes I buy is to rip out the insole and replace with green superfeet. They are not for cushioning, but for support. They have made a huge difference for me. I need the strong arch more than anything.
According to the website the green is the thickest. It is the only one I tried on my Brooks trail shoe. I didn't have my mundial shoes at the store. They already fit snug as it is and The only way I can see any insole going there is by removing the stock that's glued there. I don't know if the black is thiner than the blue or the other way around
I have a pair of superfeet that I bought in 2005 at Roadrunner Sports in San Diego. I am not a huge runner, but they still work as well as the day I purchased them. I swap them in and out of my running shoes and my mundials which I referee in. I swear by them.
Which ones do you use? Blue, black, green? Did you remove the glued factory insoles or just put the super feet over?
Mine are green. At the time I purchased them I was an occasional runner who was ramping up really quickly in training for my first marathon. I had terrible trouble with medial tibial stress syndrome as a result of my overpronation. I walked across this scanner at Roadrunner and bought what they told me to buy. And yes, I did remove the original insoles on both my mundials and all the running shoes I have used since then. Best of luck - nothing more exciting than arch support (to an old man like me).
