i also read that Maradona's son is playing in this tournament...

    Hugo Jr. v Diego Jr.

I feel sorry for these players... Both Diego Jr and Hugo Jr have huge shoes to fill

My son's team is travelling to the Dallas Cup, and I wonder if anyone here can provide information on some youth soccer teams in Mexico.

General stuff like how the club runs its youth soccer programs, tryouts, leagues they play in, how well their teams have done, and so on.

And any web sites or other internet info out there.

    Here are the clubs.

Tigres Monterrey (presumably affiliated with the big club)

Tigres Saltillo Saltillo Mexico (presumably NOT affiliated with the big club)

    CF Monterrey

    UNAM Pumas

The last two, like the first, affiliated with the big clubs presumably.

Thanks in advance for any info!!!

youth soccer teams registered under the FMF work in zoning.

Each club has its affiliated teams. For example, if you were to live in DF but wanted to have a youth program for Tigres (Monterrey), you basically contact Tigres and tell them your intentions... the requiremts depend on each club. You have to have decent facilities, implement each clubs mission and values, have some sort of funding other than the club, etc, etc..

Saltillo is in the second division and they are affiliated with Tigres of the first division.

Dont confuse reserve squads with youth squads.

As a parent you could take your child to any club..whether they accept you or not is based on performance and try outs. Try outs are usually posted in the local newspapers or you can call the club and aske dthem when and where you can take your kid

The leagues... well there are literally thousands of leagues and are all zoned.

This will change shortly and for the better.

the FMF wants to oversee every aspect of soccer in Mexico and are working hand in hand with the Education department. It would be easier to moniter schools than independant leagues for scouting purposes. Just last year, the FMF implemented the first official university league.. its amatuer and operated by the FMF.

you wouldnt happen to have rosters would you?

What are super groups? IS that just the eldest age group or something?

what age group will your son be particpating in?

just by looking at some of the teams... it does look like most of the teams are affiliated with a club..

not to long ago, i saw an interview with Joaquin Beltran (Pumas central defender) and he was haing a work shop with Pumitas... they have a very good youth program (no wonder they have produced more National team players than any other club in MExico... I believe they start at age 4 and play like 5 on 5. Beltran was just saying that was a product of Pumitas and the youth teams as well as the reserve team. He has been with them since he was a toddler basically.

    Thanks for all the info.

    What is "DF?"

    Nope, no rosters.

My son is playing at U14.

The "Supergroup" is for U19s that are determined to be somehow a "cut above" the standard u19 clubs. You'll note in brackets two U19s, regular and "super group."

You'll also note the U17 USMNT is playing up in the U19 Supergroup. Ellinger, the team's coach, has brought them to this tournament regularly: Landon Donvovan played in Dallas Cup. This tournament is excellent prepartion for the team in anitcipation of the U17 WC competition in Finland later this summer.

I guess the subtext of my original question is if Tigres/Moneterey is sending a U14 team, are these kids:

--really the top U14s in Monterrey?? At top youth team in Mexico??
--would there be anything on Tigres website that tells me how they do things with their youth squad?
--if they play in a league, what is it and where can I find info about it?

    Thanks.

The Youth Soccer teams in Mexico are very inconsistent. This is mostly because Clubs make enough money from TV and Sponsership deals that it is easier for them to buy a player than to bring one up through their ranks. The Majority of clubs usually pick up promising players from any of their affiliate clubs playing in the lower divisions.

Just recently Mexican Clubs have begun seriously working with the youth teams. Pachuca has opened up Mexicos first Football University and Chivas has adopted the Ajax system. UNAM which has been Mexicos leading club in terms of developing players still continues to work with their youth squads sending their teams to all maner of competitions from the Dallas Cup to the Toulon tournament in France.

    :) :)
