I really don't know what to say at this point. When you can't beat anybody after almost two months, not even a PDL team, you are genuinely bad. I fear we're about to see a big drop-off in attendance. The Mike is a pretty miserable place to watch a game. With Peter Wilt gone, the club has done little to promote the team and build and maintain connections to the fanbase. And the Eleven are just plain not fun to watch. It feels like we're back in the last days of Jurgen Sommer, when the team was listless, directionless, and just generally bad.
i meant to watch the game, but daddy duty got in the way. i haven't closely watched them all season. what's the issue? are you seeing anything consistently that looks like the problem?
Well, they desperately miss Dylan Mares. His replacement, Ben Speas, has been injured. And Don Smart is also injured (and wouldn't Duke Lacroix be nice to have right about now?). As a result, the team has no fluidity through midfield and no pace on the wing, and too often has resorted to the kind of hoof-and-hope approach that characterized their play during their first two seasons. The injury situation is genuinely bad, with Vukovich also out. But at another level, the drop-off was predictable. Indy last year was a veteran team with many players in their early 30s. During the offseason the club lost their two most dynamic young players (Mares and Lacroix) and did not adequately replace them (although the jury is still out on Speas; we'll see what happens once he's back from injury). Meanwhile, everyone else is a year older. It's just not a good team right now.
