Are their any independent teams in your area and do they particpate in leagues with other club's travelling sides? I ask because my home club has a horrible coach at my daughter's age level and we will not be returning to the travelling scene, unless, I am coach. After coaching a rec team this past year, there are 6 or 7 girls that would form a solid foundation of a U10 travel team. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
In NC you must be affiliated with a club (specific definitions) to be involved with NCYSA and play oficail games or NCYSA santioned tournaments.
Not out of the question, but the travel experience we had was nothing like what we expected. I was very disappointed in the lack of quality coaches and the pidgeon-holing which had occured. I thought perhaps I could provide her with travel and with a coach who wasn't going to limit players exposure to positions or let vocal parents decide playing time and positions for them. It was bad enough to the point where I don't want to chuck another $400 at it to see if it was a one time thing. That coupled with the fact that I had the priviledge of coaching an exceptional bunch of girls this Spring got me to thinking that if I kept my 9 year olds together, they could actually grow as a team. Normally I wouldn't move a muscle, but this season every parent asked how they could play for me next season in rec, and my club assigns team strictly by geography, which in the long view is fair, but doesn't answer my current situation. Would we struggle? Yes, our top two scorers were 10. Wouldn't in house (rec) be fine? Yes, but I selfishly would like to keep this group
