yea we've been talking about that the last few days. i think everyone here would rather just keep Baker around for depth than have Drinkwater arrive. and Drinkwater doesn't even appear to want to move anyway. though not sure why the club would really be after him in the first place.
Traction in the media or not, Drinkwater seems extremely unlikely. If he and the club have no interest, it's dead. That should make everyone super happy...although expecting more than an "average" player as your 4th CM seems like hubris to me. As the article and others have stated...who wants to come play for Chelsea from the bench? Drinkwater especially. He's a starter and has a PL title under his belt. What's his motivation? We'd love to think we're RM or Barca...but we're not there yet. Players would still seem to prefer to play for MU...recent record be damned.
I don't think we'd have trouble attracting a player like Drinkwater - we'd pay him a lot more. I see no evidence of players like that dying to play for United instead.
I have to assume we're playing a wait and see/game of chicken in terms of what happens after Neymar. We likely won't do any business until the end of the window, fellas. Hang tight.
"Conte says it is important the club know his position on how many new players we need, and not the press."
Bale being shopped around? I'd prob just say hell yeah to that regardless of price. This team needs another gamechanger, not more squad players.
The VVD links haven't really made sense since signing Rudiger. While he's obviously a great player, the CB position is far from our greatest need. I'm sure we could use that £50m to buy a couple of star players like Candreva and Drinkwater.
Same. We'd all love to add him but it's extremely unlikely that he's leaving Madrid and if he does I doubt it will be for Chelsea.

Are we after Drinkwater? Why? Where else are the obvious landing spots? The people most excited about Bale would be our medical staff. If we buy a wide player, we should go young. Older wife players break down a lot, and Bale already has a very extensive injury history.
I agree completely. Bale has been plagued with injuries for years now. Ask a Madrid fan, and they'll tell you the same. Word is that we (and United) have our eyes set on Bale, while Madrid have their eyes set on Dembele and Mbappe (if they sell Bale). We really can't compete with Madrid for most players, but if we're targeting wide players, we should be looking at someone like Demebele. He's young, skillful, and has "future BdO winner" written all over him.
Barca also has their sights on Dembele. Hope we don't spend all our remaining time tilting at that windmill and not meeting our other needs.
