In your mother-[expletive] face! [R] Tonight was a good night. I am feeling particularly pleased and arrogant. DC United won, and, better yet, played damned well for most of the match. Me and my usually critical and gloomy self are hard pressed to single out anyone who had a shabby performance. But on top of that the Metros lost. And there it is, a headline in the New York Times reading “With a Lot to Play for, MetroStars Show Very Little”. Isn’t that beautiful? When I saw that article I was ever so close to posting a thread entitled “Let’s all laugh as the MetroStars collapse”. And then I got to see Los Angeles lose at home to Chicago. Got beat two to nothing by a couple of rookie goal scorers. Outstanding stuff. LA looked like Hell and I’m excited about going to see DC United leave the Galaxy broken and confused next weekend. Oh sure, so Chicago won and it’s that much harder for DC United to win the division. And of course Columbus won and so did New England. Whatever. Tonight I don’t care. DC United won a good game against the best team in the league and the Metros and LA were humiliated. Not bad. For the first time in a long time I feel very good about this team and, more than that, I’m quite willing to admit it.

Weedman - I've thought about it and I've decided you just don't get it. It ain't about the good side or the bad side. (And what the Hell does that mean anyway!?) And it's not about optimism or pessimism - the usual crux of our disagreement. See even during the best of years I was never optimistic about DC United. I wasn't pessimistic either. Both those things are about hope. I was neither hopeful nor hopeless. No, the choice was between strident arrogance and misery. Tonight, after many years of misery I have been reminded of that old strident arrogance. That's not about hope. It's just about, as Petke says, "In your mother-f'ing face!" Oh, and about this ... Is that the petty buzzing of a teeny-tiny fly? Somebody really ought to swat the thing.
