My favorite part of the conference today was that both owners showed that they have some critical characteristics in spades... MORAL FIBER / CHARACTER & INTELLIGENT COMPETITORS I would go to battle with them any day. I hardly could renew my season tickets with DLH. Party on Wayne!
I’m going to end my 8 season boycott of RSL season tickets. We have an ownership group that appears to want the Senior team to compete at high levels and to grow the fanbase. It’s such a relief after an owner for whom RSL was a tool to increase the profitability of his other businesses, and do the “Hey, look at me” thing.
I hate to be that guy (just kidding, I love it, I have no friends), but don't you want to wait to see what they actually do? Anyone can make acceptable mouth noises in a press conference.
Everyone needs a reason to believe. For some, this is the reason and who am I to argue with it? I'm hopeful.
Typically strong Athletic article about what to expect from Blitzer as RSL owner, here. A selection drawn from interviews with people who work for or worked for other sports-related Blitzer holdings. "Broadly, they characterized Blitzer as the type of owner who is engaged but not overbearing, the sort who provides the necessary resources for his teams to succeed, then mostly stays out of the way and lets the people he hired do their thing. They also described Blitzer as a decent guy. They said he takes a genuine interest in the employees he interacts with and isn’t shy about going out of his way to offer them positive feedback or well-wishes, two characteristics that could easily help facilitate a positive workplace culture. That alone should mark a significant improvement from Hansen, who oversaw and contributed to an environment at RSL that was remarkably toxic." Lots more too. And lots to be very happy about.
did you see/hear the mouth noises DLH made? These guys, in a single press conference, already showed tenfold better understanding of MLS and the game in general than DLH ever did. That guy was the prototypical "I'll bullshit my way through this, I'm fine" type of talker. Little to no preparation went into DLH speeches/press conferences. Hell, you could argue that was a big driver in him no longer being owner
After listening to the Soapbox guys, I now have a request of the media. Please ask the new owners when they will be lobbying the league to return the international spot back to RSL. Maybe I'll hit up Trey on Twitter, too.
Or at least shift it to the U22 initiative, since it was a youth international spot in the first place.
I could be ok with that, since you get either 1 or 3 depending on the DP situation. If these HGs hit, that could be worthwhile.
there is no way in hell had, say the LA Galaxy, made the exact same trade that they wouldn't have fixed it by now. It's so ridiculous
The team name is RSL. When talked about, with people that actually follow the team (even partially), it's 90/10 called RSL. The word "Real" isn't heard much, honestly. I think the name is better than just a Salt Lake FC or SC. Not much, but those are so bland
Not to mention on International Talk Like A Pirate Day we can refer to ourselves as Arrrrrgh SL, which is a huge plus.
My wife teaches 5th grade. The day before talk like a pirate day, she has them write a story that involves the ocean and a boat. Then, the next day, she announces it's talk like a pirate day and gives them a sheet with pirate terms and the assignment is to go back to the story they wrote and add the pirate terms in place of the normal English equivalent words. She says it's the one day of the year where almost every student wants to read their story out loud to the class.
At least he didn't say, "If only the ownership would change the name of the club we might finally be able to sign Diego Chara."
