To me the funny part is that Republicans are so morally reprehensible and crazy that people thought this was plausible enough to need to have it fact-checked.

 

Republicans literally claimed Kerry's military service was false among other things. Then there was the Obama birther movement. Not Dems fault that the GOP is so damn weird that even something as false as that sounds plausible. Especially with a guy who looks like he'd not supposed to be near schools.

Also, Lyndon Johnson tried to spread a rumor that an opponent of his had a thing for pigs. His reasoning? He wanted the guy to deny it. Didn't help that the opponent, Dudley T. Dougherty (Who looks like the grandfather of Matt Gaetz) looked like a guy who'd get intimate with a pig. It's not a new tactic.

 

The difference is I have not seen anybody affiliated with the Harris campaign using this to attack Vance.
