I wonder what Democratic leaders who aren’t straight white men think and feel in their heart of hearts? White males are an unmarked category in our politics. So they can just react without filtering their words. POCS and women are going to have reactions as POCs or women, but our discourse severely limits how much, if at all, they can speak on that. Like, when Obama said about Trayvon Martin something like, he could have been my son (or maybe he said that could have been me.). It was controversial because, you see, the president should be the president for all Americans, not just his kind.

But when any of the 40+ presidents reacted to any news event as white men, it’s like the air or water, just an unremarkable aspect of the world. If Pelosi were still minority leader, I’m sure she’d have thoughts about the Epstein files as a woman. How much of that would she feel like sharing, and how much would she have to bottle up?

Dave, they don't necessarily hurt. My wife played on one for five years or so before a careless move on the softball field tore the meniscus and imaging showed the ACL was not merely gone, but long gone. Her boss-- an orthopedist/radiologist himself-- chose not to have his repaired and skied regularly on it for years without a problem. I may be missing my left one since 1968 and have had no great problems for sixty years, playing hockey and lacrosse, dancing, working construction, etc.

As long as the cartilage is pretty sound, the musculature will overdevelop to take up any slack.

Of course if there's other damage, sometimes they hurt like hell and jam up the joint horribly. It just depends.

 

When I hear that -- or something saying essentially the same thing -- all I can think of is "This person has no idea what is going on. The problem is that a big part of country is exactly this. Wake the fvck up."

 

At the same time, there are disagreements about how extreme the actions are, to whom, what should be the center of discussion... a significant percentage of the Dems are now looking to jettison some oppressed minorities or keep them out of sight so that they appear more like the bolded to undecided voters. I hope that backfires miserably.

 

He didn't flee to Russia before his sweetheart deal in 2008. He went somewhere else.
