One of the oddities is how many and how hard Never Trumpers have become woke like this. I check out a lot of their content and it’s definitely a theme.

What could she say directly to Mormons? She’s not a believer. It would probably sound presumptuous.

Anyway, the fact that she responded and Trump did not might move a few fence sitters. Even if only 2%, that’s 8000 voters, which is close to the 2020 difference between Biden and Trump in Arizona.

Mormons are very pro immigration.

 

There are numerous Mormon-specific doctrines and even speech by its top leaders in fairly recent history she could have made token reference to, that would have made it somewhat personal.

She could have spoken directly to Mormon women as well, who are getting fairly browbeat for asserting their importance and individuality. Mormons have a pretty distinct church-speak. Using any of the tried and true lines would at least resonate, instead of a boilerplate Christian message.

@Sounders78 could have drunk-crafted a better response. If the hope is to move anyone who reads the deseret news (not very many persuadable readers there), this would not do it. Trump’s non-response won’t even register.

I think saying anything positive about immigration might help with Mormons, but hurt her just about everywhere else.
