At first I thought you were talking about the orange fascist. Then I thought you were talking about Elon Musk. Turns out you were talking about RFK Jr.
you might think whatever about Howard - relevant- not funny- changed- doesn’t matter. I know for a fact, Howard not going along with the con beyond performance burns Trump. It’s personal. Deeply. And politically, even Hillary says it’s one the biggest media regrets she had back…— YS (@NYinLA2121) October 6, 2024
I know everyone is making fun of this but I just can’t get over it, pressing publish on this bad boy when Kamala Harris is on the nation’s premiere tough interview tv program - so famous for being tough that instead of music they just play a ticking fucking stop watch 10/10… https://t.co/NNdHMievK8— Jon Lovett (@jonlovett) October 6, 2024 For the teachers in here, you have my condolences.
what an ass***** “You need to be quiet.” - Former Maryland State Del. Neil Parrott, the Republican nominee in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, shouting at his Democratic opponent, @April4Congress, during the Frederick League of Women’s candidate forum today at Hood College. pic.twitter.com/JIOwRF7m2c— Maryland Politics & News (@AMinerDetail) October 6, 2024
That Andrea Mitchell line…yeah, some undecided corporate big shot is trying to figure out whether or not Harris has more intellectual heft than Trump. Sure, Jan. So weird how the New York Times, Politico, and Andrea Mitchell of NBC News all have the same complaint - ON THE SAME DAY - about who Kamala Harris is (and is not - none of them) talking to. I'm sure this is purely coincidental & not an attempt to ~ create a narrative ~🙃 pic.twitter.com/VIXyEh21nI— scary lawyerguy (@scarylawyerguy) October 6, 2024
The tweet implies some conspiracy by NBC, Politico and NYT - acting in concert and not merely a "coincidence' We don't need to invoke conspiracies and should engage in principled critique of media outlets. The conspiracy stuff sounds exactly how the trumpers talk i.e "blue" Maga - or the "hashtag resistance"
The vapid self-importance of the broadcast political media has finally been exposed as the pointless, empty facsimile of actual journalism it always has been. I really hope this is the beginning of the end of the entire industry.
I assume Blue MAGA are left wing reactionary(ies) that see bias against progressive forces everywhere.
This book alas, called it back in the '80s A lot of people read this book as an elitist attack on popular culture (which now that I think about it, proved his thesis*). But Postman's biggest point wasn't that there are a lot of bad things on TV (there were enough bad books in existence to turn the grand canyon into a mountain); his point is, precisely, TV does it's worse when it's trying to be important because it turns everything into entertainment. Basically, the reason one of the major parties has as its figurehead a guy who developed his chops in professional wrestling and "reality" television was laid bare by Neil Postman in the 1980s. The reason why political reporting is all horse race all the time (and policy-free ALWAYS) is right there. And it is not getting any better in the age of the 24 hour news cycle.
I think Pfeiffer nailed the heart of it. They simply don't have access to the voters Kamala needs to win - that's why neither candidate is bothered with NYT etc. Their relevance is near zero
it's similar to stupid hashtag resistance takes that Kamala is punishing the MSM. As if in the last 30 days of a dangerously close race, the top political professionals who run her campaign would be engaged in petty vendettas as opposed to doing what it took to win We can engage in thoughtful media analysis without turning into the democrat version of MAGA - in this case a conspiracy from some twitter rando There are any number of great critiques out there on what is going wrong. See Bill Grueskin, or the likes of Greg Sargeant.
Good point. I'm more familiar with Technopoly than this one--I need to rectify that. I often wonder what Postman would have thought of social media.
Plenty of commentators are writing about bias, poor framing etc I am talking about baseless conspiracies - which that tweet contained
I think it is more of them hanging around in the same social circles/bars and crying on each other's shoulders about how unfair it is and how it makes their jobs so much more difficult. I agree that them planning to coordinate a release of articles to sway the public is unrealistic. It's more realistic that this is just what they chat about at the DC politico swingers club.
I find it hard to reconcile there is anything close to "Blue maga" in the political arena today. Sound like an oxymoron to me. Interestingly enough, according to an other article on the Bulwark, RFK Jr and Tulsi are described as Blue maga...Go figure.
Based on that article, it sounds like we're talking about grifters who learned that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, then jumped the fence to start gathertingsome of that green.
