Maybe this, the food thread, and possibly the Israel-Hamas thread will be the one where people don't talk about and freak out about Biden. Because at this point, this forum is unreadable other than the food thread.

Most of your posts lately have been dumb but this one is probably the dumbest. People are freaking out precisely because we spent time with our parents and grandparents.

You've been calling Biden senile and claiming that he as dementia for the last four years. Methinks you don't know what senile or dementia means. And I think you keep on that because you're still bitter that he beat both Warren and Bernie in 2020.

That's only because, to you, the ONLY option is for Biden to drop out. You'd rather a Democratic Civil War than to defeat Trump.

This is the third or fourth time you've said this. Which is weird because that's at least three or four times more than I've ever said anything about it.

But I mean, yeah, if Warren were president now we wouldn't be worrying about whether or not she has the mental chops to open a PDF file all by herself.

To a true lefty this is the honorable thing to do like the syndicalists and the communists fighting each other during the Spanish Civil War and paving the way for Franco.

No, there are two options. To wit,

    1) Biden drops out
    2) Biden stays in and the Democrats badly lose the presidency plus both houses of Congress.

    Based on what?

I think you underestimate how crazy the GOP has become in the last eight years.

Sadly, we live in a country in which that doesn't matter. All that matters is turnout. And Democrats will not win a turnout election when their candidate barely knows his own name.

That's why you see congresspeople from swing districts begging the president to leave and go enjoy what's left of his life.

If Biden were winning in a couple of swing states or had a plausible path to victory, I could see an argument for hanging on. But that's not the case right now. And there's still another debate. We need to have a candidate who is capable of making the case against Trump. Right now, the candidate is barely capable of speaking at all.

Like I said, when people of serious consequence (Like Gary Peters for instance, who is the chair of the DSCC), speak up. Not a backbench Congressperson. Most of the case of dumping Biden is just based on vibes. As I also mentioned, that the likes of AOC and Omar, two people who aren't exactly wallflowers, are supporting Biden is telling.

That said, Biden is that guy who can beat Trump. He's done it before, and before January 6, Dobbs, and the felony counts. And as I've said before, Trump doesn't have what got him elected in 2016 anymore. He has January 6, the fact that he's a felon, Dobbs, and he's no longer an unknown quantity. On top of that, the GOP and I don't think people take this into account, has become truly weird and offputting. Project 2025 is a great example of it.

Lastly, it's July. At this rate, one would have better luck predicting the Euros winner than what'll happen a few months away.

By November, rank and file Democrats will consolidate around the nominee, no matter who it is, in order to beat Trump. But it seems doubtful to me at this point that Biden can get the casual Democratic voters to come out. Not to mention independents.

    1. There are no independents to speak of. Only people who self-identify as independents and then vote Republican.
    2. The Democrats have been real good at keeping track of casuals and getting them to the polls. Just look at the turnout in 2020. Those weren't people who happened to drop in and vote on their way to paintball because Biden is a jolly good fellow.
