David Brooks is the master of self own! Complete clown totally out of touch.
That the NYT still pay him handsomely as an opinion writer says a lot about the Times.

I mean for starters eating a meal at the airport is not real life unless you are a road warrior

I saw a bumper sticker on an F-350 yesterday that read "If you voted for Biden you owe me gas money."

    They are not serious people.

I'd ask how much his payments are on that truck and if they really need it.

Airport bars are one of my favorite liminal spaces. I love having a beer and people watching while waiting for my flight. It's an extremely upper-middle class affectation.

It's always hard to decipher the ramblings of a Trumpy Dumbshit, but she may have been affected by this. Thanks, Biden!

More than 100k Iowans will lose expanded Medicaid soon. What you need to know:
    3 minute read
    [IMG]Michaela Ramm
    Des Moines Register

More than 100,000 Iowans will eventually be disenrolled from Iowa's Medicaid program when the federal public health emergency ends this weekend.

April 1 marks the beginning of the state's "unwinding" period of continuous Medicaid coverage, a provision of the federal COVID-19 response that allowed for expanded eligibility of the safety net health insurance for the past three years.

Many years back I lived near LAX, I’d sometimes go to the bar in the international area evenings just to do that. :)

    1) I'm drinking draft beer, not high-end bourbon
    2) It's a 'hobby' in that when I travel I generally get to the airport early, and more often than not have at least one layover
    3) I was amplifying Jitty's point that being somebody who frequently eats at airports--where nothing is cheap--is a de facto admission that you're not one of the struggling proles.

In uni, there was someone in the apartment complex where I lived who had a Deadhead sticker and a Rage Against the Machine sticker on a Lexus.

I thought about that at least once a month for over 20 years.

Oh me too. In london i'd often arrive early because of allowing so much time for rail disruption so it was a good chance to eat an early dinner, catch up on emails, tip well to sit there for 2-3 hours then be the last person on the plane - but you'd hardly blame the government for the bill

I know, I was just being facetious...

My kids are still young, so when we arrive early to the airport, we can't sit at a bar, and it's mostly sandwiches or snacks, yet the bill is probably around $80 for the 4 of us. We do know that it's because food at the airport is very expensive and it is expensive because running an airport is expensive for everyone.

I want to grad school with a guy who was into both those bands and many others. He also had a trust fun that paid around $30,000 per month.

Luckily for all of us, he was not a douche. He used public transportation for the most part, cabs when necessary, and threw pretty good parties on a regular basis. I didn't know he had a trust fund until I'd known him for a couple of years. Dude was lucky as all hell in terms of picking his parents, and in that he was a decent enough human being that he didn't need to buy friends.
