Not certain what you are assuming about my statement??? I think Alito and wife are awful, but I really just wanted to voice my extreme dislike of f********ing Michael “HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM” Barbaro’s interview and exposé style.

It doesn't matter if they don't say a thing. We'll all know they're being quiet for their own sly reasons.

The sentence that begins “Doomerism is” is so, so on point. Doomerism isn’t merely wrong. If that was all, who cares? No, the problem with Doomerism is that it harms the coalition.

Just for fun, imagine Justice Brown’s house had a sign saying TRump should be jailed or something similar. Of course she’d never get away with saying, nah, that’s my husband.

My point isn’t to say Republicans are hypocrites. My point is to remind everyone that they don’t even act or think in a way that allows for hypocrisy, because hypocrisy assumes underlying principles. But there’s a difference between the bullshit they pretend to believe and the thing they actually believe in. Because literally the only thing they really believe in is power, so there’s no hypocrisy.

I guess I'm the resident climate doomer around here. I've taken some modest steps to lower my family's climate impact and am an informed voter but I have no presence in social media except for here and a little bit on Reddit. I doubt anything I write here is causing a rift in the Democratic coalition but I'll shut up if y'all are annoyed by my periodic enviro doomerism.

Actually the practice originated in the era of wooden ships and iron men; hauling down your colors signaled surrender in a battle between ships-- while hauling them down and raising them again immediately upside down signaled extreme and immanent distress; "the ship is sinking rapidly and we need help to keep the wounded from drowning," or "fires are burning toward the magazine and we have almost nobody left to fight them." In certain rare instances it might mean "we have smallpox (or plague or yellow fever) among our crew and you really don't want to capture us!"
