What's doubly stupid about Brooks complaining of high prices is that he was in an airport.

FFS, inflation could be zero and prices at your average airport bar/food joint are still astronomical.

That's a different David Brooks. Nobody knows what our guy is worth. The first website I looked up said $5 million, the next says $20 million. As those figures suggest, those sites are faking it.

But I would guess that something between those two figures might be about right for a highly paid employee, but not one who owns equity in the business.

I agree with this - it's an issue with the pundit class in general. It is especially bad in the UK

It's so weird to see openly Stalinist language and tactics from U.S. politicians. I mean, Gaetz and Trump aren't even trying to hide it.

The MAGAe sound quite Maoist IMO - with all their demands for purges of books, intelligensia, denunciations etc

Both sides is correct. Even trump hates Welker and NBC. That’s sure to help his election chances.

“Donald Trump said on Sunday that he intends to thoroughly scrutinize and limit NBC News and other news agencies if he's re-elected president in 2024.”

They all railed against the decadent elite -- the intellectuals, the artists, the media. It's always the same shit, whether you call them fascists, commies, or white nationalists.

This is a really big problem with our politics right now, and I think it's gotten worse with the decline of "legacy" media. The rise of social media, podcasting, etc., has created a huge market for pundits whose sole talent is being able to give superficially compelling, internally logical "takes" on everything.

He sometimes acts that way so it can be confusing.

I expect to see him dressed like a miner getting out of his Maserati in the Capitol garage.

Well, the good news is that NBC and Comcast will see Trump as the fascist threat he is, and their execs will donate huge amounts to Democrats in order to avoid that. And hopefully, in term, other media companies will also band together to ensure a non-fascist America.

Or, they'll base their politics on the capital gains tax rate. One or the other.

It started with the right wing media of the 1970s and 1980s. Then Pat Robertson and the 700 Club took that to a whole new level.

    I think we're talking about two different--but sadly complimentary--problems.

Also--shoutout to @Q*bert Jones III for recommending Messengers of the Right. Makes a compelling argument that you need to back up the beginning of the story for right-wing media a full generation.
