Absolutely--I almost named Cunningham for blowing it for us. Manchin is sticking with the D's in spite of the preferences of his own voters. His replacement will be a very right-wing Republican who will occasionally cast a pro-labor union vote at best.
Manchin should vote for all of it as they are (not "stripped down"), both as the Infrastructure bill and the Voting bill are very popular in West Virginia.
My issue with Manchin is he's basically acting like he's in a 1950s American Civics propaganda video. It's also his insistence on bipartisanship when it's obvious that the GOP has been in full on "OWN THE LIBS!!" mode for years now. Know what he said when a vote for a capitol riot commission was presented and he was asked about nixing the filibuster? "I won't destroy our government." Again, straight out a American Civics video from the 50s, all but missing the "GOLLY!" In any other normal year, I'd still think Manchin is an asshole, but right now, he's putting his head in the sand about what's going with the GOP and still wishes it was 1957 and he was tying onions to his belt.
Nah....Infrastructure bill may be popular but I doubt West Virginians give a rat ass about the voting rights b ill (yes I have seen a poll on. this but it is a pretty questionable one). Beyond that, the reality I WVa is beyond a right wing state, it is a complete backward place, a caricature of white grievance. I know the state and goes there from time to time since it is 1 hr from me in the DC suburbs. That we have a D senator there basically defies logic. So let's make the best out of igt and hope that Biden can succeed at twisting /convincing the other Joe to go along.
If Dems had won in Maine, Manchin would not matter. Then again, he would not matter if Democrats had lost in Georgia. Unless Biden can convince Manchin to become the new Doug Jones and Dems just give up on winning West Virginia Senate again (It will be very hard for Manchin to hold it anyways) Then this will keep happening. Evey one knew what Manchin was.
Not according to the latest polls. Admittedly, it appears to be a poll created by people with an agenda. Not sure if this is the poll you reference. https://news.yahoo.com/poll-shows-m...gDigl_cI5wM4bhY4C-ElrNOkiE6FSpNaw431hDIsAc15r
Various pundits have done deep dives into Manchin in recent days Summary of what I've learned Big question is what does Manchin want? Seems clear he is not positioning for wins to take back to Virginia. He holds all the cards so this would have been tried long ago Is he drinking his own bathwater? Probably To some degree he is likely building a political brand based on "bipartisanship". The combo of lack of underlying logic, and motivated thinking explain his fundamentally non-sensical position Likely most motivated by power (including re-elec) Sinema's actions seem much less politically logical
Again...the current governor was elected running as a Democrat. As a general point, yours is a strong one. Manchin can't go too far left or else he'll lose next go around*. But on these two specifics I strongly suspect you're wrong. For one thing, infrastructure is popular across the board, and especially so in WVa. So I don't think him pushing to go it alone on the next spending bill is risky to his chances. Second are the civic reform bills. Those are process issues, and if there's one thing we know, it's that voters do not give a shit about process. They care about outcomes. So it's doubly useless for Manchin to oppose this bill. First of all, being against it based on process doesn't help him with voters. Second of all, the bill is all about process...making it easier to vote, reducing gerrymandering, etc. Third of all, and most importantly, he's not really against the bill. It's not like he's said, I like the anti-gerrymandering provisions but don't like the campaign finance rules, so keep the former and ditch the latter and I'm for it. He's against voting for a bill that the Republicans oppose at least 41-9. It's an incoherent stand in 2020s politics. Kazuma has it right. *If he's pulling all this shit now and doesn't run for reelection, he can just go to hell.
Given her persona, which is that of the "I'm so alternative" mindset. We give her some legal drugs and a kink themed yarn store with cheesy profanity and she'll wash Biden's Corvette if he asks her too. Even if he's joking.

PSA suggested that Biden invited Sinema and Manchin to the WH along with all the Repugs those two think that will support the voting and infrastructure bills.
The Gov was elected as a Dem and promptly switched to R. What you are missing is that WVa voters while they don't care about processes, are very much in the GOP mind frame of opposing anything supported by the Dems. That is the Manchin quandary there. There is nothing incoherent about his position. Manchin is just doing a Manchin. You guys need to get back to reality with regard to the WVa voting population. They are on the right of frigging Alabama or Arkansas!

Honestly I DGAF about the infrastructure bill without the JLVRA. We lose forever if nothing is done about these antidemocratic efforts. IMHO opinion, this VRA bill is the lynchpin. Nothing else matters.
Manchin is good at what he does, but at some point he needs to accept he isn't long for the political world. He's 74 years old. He won the gubernatorial election in 2004 by nearly 30 points. He won the Senate in the 2010 special election by 10 points. He retained his seat in 2012 by 24 points. He retained it again in 2018 by 3.3 points. It likely would have been closer but for a Libertarian getting 4% of the vote. By age or by political current, he is not long for WV politics. So he can either put some guardrails up and lose or he won't and he'll still lose.

Liberals are naturally mad at sitting senators with power but they might spare a thought for Democrats like Cal Cunningham, Bill Nelson and Katie McGinty who blew winnable races and made Manchin—a guy who won a Trump+39 state and put McConnell in the minority—their deciding vote.— Sahil Kapur (@sahilkapur) June 8, 2021
