France is pissed and thinks Biden acted ike Trump. The French are not happy with the new US-UK-Australia submarine deal. “It's a stab in the back. We created a relationship of trust with Australia and that trust has been broken," French foreign minister says. https://t.co/eZnhXVMCsE— Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins) September 16, 2021
If Australia backs out of a deal to buy French submarines, then the French should be angry at Australia, rather than that the other vendor that it selected. There's nothing dishonorable about the U.S. agreeing to do business with Australia. OK, sure, I realize that behind the scenes the U.S. was probably working hard to twist Australia's arm, but that is business, no? Ultimately, the decision that was made was not made by the United States. It was made by Australia.
Yep. Interesting blog post delves into this. France learns a lesson in global power politics – Kevin Drum (jabberwocking.com)
Is nice to be famous, say dumb shit and get invited to the white house, maybe she can speak with kid rock on what to expect.
No democrat take over the house in 2018 and probably 3 open supreme court seats (which would be better than the current setup).
Probably? Seeing how they are pressuring the Canadian government to buy American fighters jets instead of European, it's very likely that the same pressure was applied to Australia.
This has been going on since forever down under. Frigates, F16s, you name it. I remember NZ signed up to spend 1bn leasing 28 old F16s from the US back in the late 90s. We subsequently canned the deal as we had no need for the aircraft which would have been mainly based in Oz.
If anything, it resembles a return to normal. i.e building US kit locally in Oz. Looking back into this, at the time in '16 Oz wanted diesel subs which could later be converted to nuclear, and had to be 90% built in Oz (important politically). So the US was never a potential vendor for it. 5 years later, it seems Oz now had the opportunity to switch to the nuke subs it wanted, as part of a pacific alliance that suits australia (again similar to the old alliances). So I guess with the US returning to normal post Trump, suddenly Australia could get everything it wanted. So it seems Australia has been looking for this off ramp for some time and now the US is back as a global partner, they dived in. So basically Oz can build US nukes locally. Something never on the table before.
I agree in general it makes sense that Europe ultimately goes in its own direction, without the UK and US who can't be relied upon. The trouble is there is no domestic support in germany for a big military build up.
Talks about airlines using vaccine passports? Well Hell, it's against the Constitution. Constitutional scholar Madison Cawthorn says it would be illegal for airlines to require vaccines because, “you actually have a constitutionally protected right to free, unrestricted travel within the United States.” pic.twitter.com/CgzrUy7wU0— Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) September 16, 2021 How is it these fuckers continue to throw around the word Constitution without knowing what the fuck it actually means.

Unvaxxed Air would be an amazing idea, Madison Cawthorn. Doesn't Tru*mp have a bunch of old planes from his failed Tr*mp Airline lying around? Do it! Do it for the "patriots" like Madison Cawthorn to give it their business. What an amazing, amazing idea...until it goes bankrupt after killing off its passengers. Madison Cawthorn is very, very dumb. Of course, as a recent graduate of Patrick Henry College, that is not really surprising. What a stupid institution of "higher learning" that place is. It has an interesting "core curriculum," but the place is screwed up. Dancing, smoking, drinking and GUNS! are prohibited on campus. They also have a very strange ritual, a "bobtism" where newly engaged men are dunked in "Lake Bob" on campus. Their required "Statement of Faith" (that students must sign as a condition of attendance) has these little tidbits: Jesus Christ literally rose bodily from the dead. Jesus Christ literally will come to earth again in the Second Advent. Satan exists as a personal, malevolent being who acts as tempter and accuser, for whom Hell, the place of eternal punishment, was prepared, where all who die outside of Christ shall be confined in conscious torment for eternity. Also, it is one of rapiest places on earth, despite (because of?) the official ban on students having sex outside of marriage. An awful lot of sexual assault happens there, for a place with fewer than 400 students. https://newrepublic.com/article/116623/sexual-assault-patrick-henry-college-gods-harvard
Small point but Madison Cawthorne dropped out, which further reinforces your previous sentence. Carry on
