Emmett Till would have turned 80 today. That’s younger than Jim Clyburn, or Nancy Pelosi, or my parents. The past isn’t past. pic.twitter.com/t1hX00ljfF— Eric Columbus (@EricColumbus) July 25, 2021
If Ted Cruz is upset about the Cleveland Indians changing their name just wait until he finds out about how he started going by Ted instead of Rafael to appeal to racists.— The Volatile Mermaid (@OhNoSheTwitnt) July 24, 2021

But what about their fee-fees? I am a brown woman. I should not have to do apologia for not wanting to associate with people who want me dead or oppressed. https://t.co/SionnlpoKY— HawaiiDelilah™ 🟦 🇺🇸🇺🇦✡️ (@HawaiiDelilah) July 26, 2021
Fvck their fee-fees!!! "Trump is a sad, pathetic failure. "The Trump vaccine" 😆But hey, it's a cult, so whatever works.https://t.co/EEldfX7bqW— Julia Davis (@JuliaDavisNews) July 25, 2021
31% of Asians voted for Trump [in exit polling], so she may have members in her family that want her "dead or oppressed", I definitely know that I have a few Trump sporting family members. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-...ted-biden-63-31-reality-more-complex-n1247171
"I was also reassured after President Trump and his family were vaccinated. If getting vaccinated was safe enough for them, I felt it was safe enough for me." -Why hasn't this been the Republican theme since January?
That was the part that struck me as well. Only after approval from the cult master can the cultists get their shot.
But the cult leader and his brood were vaccinated first. That should have been the sign that it was the "Pro-America" thing to do.
But that would counter the evangelical machismo in that it takes strength to fight off Covid-19. Besides, narcissism.
Related: Tom Nichols has a view about the Hawleys and Cottons of the world, the guys who talk about railing against out of touch city folk. The theory: They hate their constituents and are afraid of having to live with them. Hence the rhetoric of Hawley railing against out of touch DC folk. Then again, DC is a different world compared to say Rural Town, Missouri. But so are a lot of big cities. Of course, folk like Hawley don't go to the Ivys so they can become an official in Rural Town, Missouri. I should add that the rural vs. city thing isn't exactly new. But it's telling when I meet people that move here and they tell me they're from small towns in Ohio, North or South Carolina, or Florida. Or as a friend put it when she moved from small town Michigan to the Metro Detroit area; and was asked if she'd ever move back to said hometown: "******** no." And to add to the bubble thing, I do live in a bubble. But compared to what's available to me in the conservative bubble such as Macomb, I'm good.
There is definitely something to the theory Having "made it" they don't want to go back - so their options are to ride the Trump train, or try and find an offramp - but obviously there are limited places at the trough for ex-trumpers
Sykes and Nichols talk about this on the Bulwark podcast, too. Nichols mentions Hawley being worlds apart when it comes to education. But getting back to the bubble, it's a stark contrast when I head out to see my dad. There's a Trump 2024 flag near his house, I see a ton of Trump shrines whenever I'm up there. Whereas where I live, I'm surrounded by a lot of Black Lives Matter and left leaning signs. That said, I'm still waiting on my series of articles on the Biden voter.

In fairness to the NYT, which has taken the largeest amount of abuse for its "Trump voter" stories, there is a logic in presenting "the Trump voter" to readers who are mostly not. In the same spirit, the right-wing media should be publishing articles on "the Biden voter," for their readers who are mostly not. But I suspect that doesn't happen. I suspect that once again, both sides don't do it.
