But Trump was weird shit in diners too. But Hal the corn farmer said "that's exactly what 'Merica needs right now. he tells it like it is"
I think I’ll start a poll asking if Sounders’ encyclopedic knowledge of the Simpsons is more impressive, or disturbing. For what exactly, Lowrent? Are you proposing firing 120mm munitions at immigrants, or just running them over with a 60-ton war machine? Please go be stupid somewhere else.— Schrödinger's Litter Box (@Brewjew308) January 26, 2023

Drinking? Oh, yes. I have never met any in Wisconsin who has ever gone to one of adult book stores along the highways. Same with the fireworks stores, often next to the adult book stores
There is one by me in Wheatfield and also a Third Base in. Buffalo but both have been closed for a while. There was one in Windsor, I drove past called Out and About.
For Cereal it was Corn Flakes then we graduated to Kix. I rarely got any of the good ones @Belgian guy you hard about the Waterloo Skulls?
The thing is, I've heard more than a few younger people say something like they watched it for a decade until season 25 or whatever when it stopped being funny, and I'm starting to think The Simpsons is the constant and it's the people that change.
It's incredible to think they have had 740 episodes or so. Given the show takes place within one year, they are now over 2 episodes occurring each day in their internal year.
I don't know. I remember the first 9, 10 seasons being hilarious as hell. Season 11 hits and it was alright, it did give us Stupid Sexy Flanders. But then as the show goes on, it just gets worst. And there is something to be said for comedic quality. There's a compilation I saw somewhere of Johnny Tightlips, and you can tell the jokes start funny then just slowly get worse.
STOP. ALL. MONOPOLIES. It’s genuinely not hard to see when one company owns an operates 80% of the market. https://t.co/CJBb9KqY65— matt (@barba_toast) January 25, 2023
I watched a recent-ish episode not terribly long ago, and it was...fine. Amusing enough, no unkind or cringe humor, didn't make me laugh out loud, and totally forgettable. But a reasonably amusing 20-odd minutes of TV comedy.

I've erased a few responses to this line of discussion, but I think what I want to say is that in the late 80's/early 90s, there was still a non-fragmented culture that the show could tap into. The Simpsons itself became a huge part of the culture. My siblings and I spoke to each other largely in Simpsons quotes, and one of my brothers and I spent a whole summer swapping VHS and catching OTA broadcast to assemble our own complete set of "mix tapes" of the first 7-8 seasons. Around season 9, they ditched the whole premise of Homer working at the power plant, and it became more of a "let's see what crazy things Homer & the Simpsons get into this week!" It had to evolve, because how do you go 30 seasons in the same paradigm? However, along with the fragmentation of culture, I also became unmoored to the Simpsons universe. It's a fine show. I don't watch. I think South Park started out as a pretty crass and pointless cartoon, albeit groundbreaking. About the time The Simpsons started to fall apart for me, their writing and social commentary became wickedly funny. (Major Boobage was just an amazing episode!) However, I just haven't ever felt like I was missing something if I didn't catch an episode. I think it's because the humor is a bit biting and cruel, and it isn't as fun to live in that space. I'm not going to watch that either.
I was a fan for a year or so, but I figured out that the show's underlying philosophy was "if you try to do or believe anything, you are a moron".
