I have to say, as much as we crucified this guy in the run up to the World Cup, he really performed admirably in the last two matches. When Bob put his faith in him, he delivered. He's not a great player, but he was very solid and played probably about as well as he can today and was one of the few players that I can say that about in regards to the Ghana match.

Way to save face, Jonathon. It was a solid effort.

Probably the most shocking part of the World Cup. Bornstein was not directly responsible for a goal in 2 games and didn't even really get burnt.

More than I would have expected. Lets just hope we find a better left back by 2014 :)

As someone who has been a vociferous critic of Bornstein, I have nothing but praise for his two recent performances. I got a lot of respect for a guy like Bornstein that just shakes off the criticism and goes about elevating his game.

Yeah, he really looked like a passable left back. Who knew?

As the only Chivas USA/USMNT supporter on this thread, I can honestly tell you all that I am proud that this guy gutted it out and left it all out on the field. He played smart, imho.
I've met JB before and have spoken to him on numerous occasions. He's no arrogant jerk.
He's had to switch to LB after playing forward almost all his life. He's still learning to play the position.

    About the game:
He looked shaky in the first half but never stopped marking. He saved us a few times in he second half.

    Is the best ever? No.
Does he play like his life depends on it? Yes.
    Will he get better? Probably.

Nice of the Bornstein haters to STFU at the America Outlaws viewing party in Hollywood. They underestimated the Chivas USA/USMNT supporters.;)

actually, he was more than average today. he was flat out awesome. he didn't get burnt once and was effective in the attack too. hopefully, he builds on this performance. i remember cherundolo at 23 was a shaky RB at times.

I've had the opportunity to spend some time with him before, and like EastLA said he's straight class. Really good guy. Way to go, Jonny B.

He had a damn fine game.

Did I miss something about him moving to a Mexican club?

Atlante was talking about getting him in exchange for a striker or something.

He was disciplined, focused, and played within himself. He reminded me of the Bornstein circa 2007.

    Kudos Johnny B!

He was great, he stepped up his game big time in the two biggest matches of his career. That has to be admired. Actually, he and Dempsey were the only two guys I was happy with today (Some of the guys who had great tournaments overall like LD, Bradley and Cherundolo regressed today.)

The only problem with Bornstein is if a attacker goes straight for the CD. ornstein in that situation seems alittle confused on what to do. Other than that he had a great game.

Please don't goto Mexico though..........Almost as bad as going to MLS as a defender (not as bad)

Chewey was not as effective today. No doubt about it. Three days to recover seemed to take its toll. But he was the consummate professional, and after a shaky start, soldiered on. My hat is off to him.

The surprise of the tournament for the U.S.

He wasn't perfect, but nobody expected him to be. Great performance by JB

He's a left back. He starts. He plays well in a good league.
