Usually, we sit around here and complain about the Oscars. This time let's list the case where yoiu think the voters got it (more or less) right. Here are a few to start -- 1984 Best Supporting Actress -- Linda Hunt, The YEar of Living Dangerously -- One of the few times that a woman playing a man doesn't come across as gimicky in the least. She's absolutely brilliant in a gripping role. 1979 Cinematography --- Days of Heaven (considered by many to be the best-looking film ever shot. It's absolutely masterful on the big screen.) 1994 -- Actress -- Holly Hunter, The Piano --- She's tremendous in absolute silence 1997 -- Actress -- Francis McDormand, Fargo -- Quintessential. 1987 -- Picture --- The Last Emperor -- The 80s saw several critics' win over more popular challengers. This is the best. That trend is refreshing when you look at the Forrest Gumps and Titanics of the 90s.
