Tino's Assist on Etch Goal[R] If you carefully watch the replay of Etch's goal and the movement of the players it's Tino that does the special work, he has a lovely little touch to Earnie (I think), who plays the overlap to Benny...during that run, Tino circles his way around the box, drawing the defender with him, leaving space for Etch up top, and then of course Tino lays a prefect pass back to etch for the open shot... good job Tino. http://www.mlsnet.com/multimedia/pepsi/index.php
... Mod's Note ... True. But in the FAQ it says that matches are not subject to spoilage after 48 hours. Granted, we still aren't quite up to the 48 hours mark but it was over 36 hours and it was very minor so I didn't bother editing the title. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... As for the goal, I watched it again last night. The whole build up was phenomenal. What impressed me was the intricacy with which they wove the ball through Colorado's defense. It was almost like the final moves leading to victory in a beautifully played chess game. If DC United made plays like that on a consistent basis I wouldn’t have any right to complain about them ever again.
Re: ... Mod's Note ... yeah you're right, but i was just about to watch it, true i knew the final result, but i was hoping tino has scored to help my fantasy teams points.
Re: Tino's Assist on Etch Goal[R] All three players combined well to make that goal. Olsen made a nice run to the endline, getting a good pass through to Quaranta. Quaranta, making a veteran move (something I've been looking for him to do for awhile now) laid the ball off for a teammate in a better shooting position. Etcheverry, while open, scorched the ball into the net. That wasn't an easy shot.
i'd like to think that kind of football--thinking, touching, running like that, 4 players, that is the kind of football i had hoped to see. there have been some glimpses of nice football in all three games--from fluid combinations such as the one that led to etch's goal, to brilliant individual plays--that makes one think this might be a nice team. i'd like to see a lot more of that, when united is active chances appear like that (not that etch didn't just crush that mutha).
Seven consecutive touches to build for that goal. Very nice. Imagine how pissed though we'd be if Etch shot that right at the keeper. He delivered. So long as he's not taking every free kick, every corner, and every throw; and so long as we have a strong supportive midfield around him, I'll give him his due. Etch deserves credit for another nice goal.
Etch Goal Yeah, when Hudson talks about the fluid soccer he likes his teams to play, this must be what he has in mind. And I think the chess analogy is spot on.
"In Praise of Etcheverry..." I almost fell out of my chair when I read this post... my, my, my... some on this Board wanted to hang poor Marco before the season started. Those of us that defended "el Diablo" were scorned and castigated! Ah... sweet is victory! Captain Etcheverry's style has never changed within DCU since their MLS victories, it really is sad, however, that there continue to be those too blind to see! Irregardless of what DCU does this season, I am still predicting Marco's best season. IntheNet
Actually this post was started by me to praise the effort of Tino who played a nice ball to Earnie, made a great run through the box, and got open to play a good pass to an open Etch... so really it should be the In Praise of Tino thread (which it was until the Mods changed the name of the thread)
