Soccer in Italy can be summed up in a few words -- A.C. Milan, Ronaldo, the Indy Burn Eagles '90.

That was the case April 1-9 when the Pike Soccer Club's Under-17 travel squad spent spring break competing in Italy.

The Burn played two friendly matches and placed second in the four-game Como Lake Cup Tournament in Lake Como, Italy. The team's lone loss was a 1-0 contest against a U19 Switzerland squad.

The Burn became the first U.S. squad to finish runner-up or champion since the tournament's inception.

Too bad the report didn't list the opponents.

A few years back, an average-good Illinois team won the U18 "Barcelona Cup". Sounded good, unless you understood that the squad was about the #6 team in Illinois at the time, and that their competition consisted of 2nd division youth sides.

Indy Burn is better than that, however ... a decent Regional contender, with 1 win, 3 losses, and 2 draws in Regional U17 play this season.

See, I was thinking more in a pic-a-nic basket sortof way. Always clutch to have road trip snacks, of course.

<BooBoo> Didn't Ranger Smith tell you to stay away from all the campers Yogi? You don't want to get in trouble with Ranger Smith.

He publicly disembowled Huckleberry Hound after he caught him marking his territory." </BooBoo>
