Happy he has signed, but will need to wait until the full details of the contract emerge before we can determine if the club have been sensible in this financially and negotiated reasonably. As other top players at the club will be looking at this with interest.

Also ironic that he reportedly becomes our only first-team player to now avoid the 25% salary deduction from not being in the Champions League - when it was his end-of-season form that significantly contributed to that

Hoping his form now fully returns to its usual high-level.

Ducker says 375k including bonuses, and that we did not waive the champions league clause.

Also mentioned he's still way behind Sanchez, although he still may be the highest paid player in the league now as it's been mentioned. Personally have no problem with that, as long as he recovers his normal form of the past 4-5+ seasons.
He did cost us last season but conversely he's been our rock since SAF left: he deserves to be paid a big amount. And he will kick on now.
Thank God also that the rumor about the clause about a salary cut when missing out on CL being waived proved not to be true as well. That simply would have been a terrible and stupid move on Woodward's part. One that would have surely caused massive issues in the dressing room, with the other players. And rightfully so.

Those wages are obviously in significant part a product of him having so much leverage, but reasonable in that context. I also think it shouldn't be a big problem in the dressing room because he has the credentials to back it up. 4x Busby award, 5x PFA team of the year makes it straightforward to say to the other players that if you want to get paid like him you should prove your worth at that level, and few players (and obviously none in our current squad) have.

All of that is of course contingent on him getting back to previous levels, and we know if his recent form persists we will have an expensive problem, but he's still plenty young for a keeper and there's no particular reason to think he would be in decline. Given Henderson's progress I think the smart move from a squad perspective would arguably still be to move him along in the next couple of years if an opportunity arises to get decent value, however the opportunities look very limited as there are only a handful of clubs that could afford him and would realistically interest him.

I would guess he’s on somewhere between 250/275 per week before incentives. Those incentives also likely include Golden Glove, Premier League, and Champions League clauses. I’m just guessing here but it seems to be a good contract for both parties.

    Dont buy it.

I bet PSG offered him at least that if not more, given what they supposedly paid Herrera.

I actually think Dave made this choice that if were close enough in wages, he will gladly stay.

Dave was very much in charge of the negotiations here. And if he had any real designs to leave the club, he would have let his contract run down with either PSG or Juventus coming in to swoop him up on a free and giving him an even bigger contract than the one he got with United.
I believe him when he says Manchester is home for him. Of course, him getting what he wanted, money wise, is a factor as well. But he knows how much he is loved at United, with the fanbase pretty tolerant when it comes to him (because of he's been so good for so long at the club).
And as he's seeing with Spain, things are not necessarily that easy elsewhere. And whether it's in Turin or Paris, there could be a lot more pressure on him, with no guarantees when it comes to his performance and with fans who may not be as forgiving, if he were to have poor displays..

That doesn’t make sense in this situation. He could have signed with someone else in four months, and as Asher said could have leveraged the lack of transfer fee into a bigger contract. There’s zero chance he goes to Juve now.

Dave getting back to his best - Ole

    https://www.skysports.com/football/...r-has-had-massive-impact-at-manchester-united

Pretty clear that we've seen a marked improvement in his form from the end of last season. Except for Palace's winner, he has shown signs of being to his normal self: this past weekend vs Leicester was clear evidence as he made a couple of big saves preserving a clean sheet in the process.
If history is anything to go by, the odds are very good indeed for the old Dave to return and him being, once more, not just the best keeper in the league, but in the game, period.

Possibly a poor stat given the turnover of keepers in that period, but felt he could have done more on a few of the recent ones.

Pretty sure that Alvarez's replacement is already in place. Richard Hartis's appointment as senior goalkeeping coach was always odd under the circumstances but it looks to make more sense now.
Besides, a change may not be the worst thing: Dave has noticeably regressed under Alvarez for some reason (especially with his kicking and distribution). Hopefully he can get his get game fully back on track over time.

A nice milestone for Dave. Showed signs that his form could be returning: hopefully it can continue and he can once more be the player he was for us not so long ago.

Even on his worst days at the office, Dave was still one of the top keepers on the planet. Given what United have put him through over the last 5-6 seasons with consistently horrific play and makeshift back lines, of those 300 matches he's really only had less than a 10 performances where one would say that he had a bad game.

It's unfair for Keane to call De Gea arrogant - Bosnish

    https://www.skysports.com/football/...gant-says-mark-bosnich-after-roy-keane-claims

It's not just unfair, it's probably just flat out wrong. Dave made a bad mistake (another one), that is much is beyond doubt and his place in the team could justifiably be under threat but that's as far as it goes.
Sidenote, it is kind of sad what we've seen happening to Dave. This is a guy who literally carried the team on his back for 5yrs, playing at an incredibly high level, saving the team's bacon time after time.
Only to see his play fall drastically in the last 18mos. Not sure what the cause of it is, but we can trace the genesis of it at the WC in Russia, with Spain: he was shocking there and his form has been very much up and down since.
And with a viable alternative knocking at his door, he needs to seriously shape up. Moving him could still prove difficult at this stage, but it reasonably could be considered if his play continues at this rate.
