The short of it is, that PSG are very serious about bringing Dave in (they are desperate for a world class gk) and have made a concrete offer to him. He is expected to make a decision in the coming days...
I'm bracing for the worst here, especially with his good buddy Herrera heading there as well. They obviously didn't know it at the time, but that move could give PSG an added edge in Dave's decision (that along with the 15mil Euros a year offer that is on the table currently).
The silver lining is the fact that United has activated the option on him for another year and PSG's unwillingness apparently to pay a transfer fee for him.

Good bye David. Despite you failing us the last 3 months, we don't deserve you. Go win something. Be happy. Play good football somewhere.

If we lose DDG and Pogs in the same summer, we are really fecked. Not just because of the quality we're losing, but because its a signal to all other players around the world that we are no longer a top club that attracts top talent. Thats how you end up like Liverpool circa 2009-2012ish...unable to attract top tier players, floundering around in 6-8th, and overpaying for English "talent".

If the one ITK from reddevils Reddit is to be believed (a lot of people seem to think he's got insider knowledge, not sure why), than Dave is gone this summer. He says the club expects PSG to make an offer and they don't expect Dave to sign a new contract.

If this happens, it just compounds our problems.

Dave leaving this summer should pretty much be what is expected at this point, as far as I'm concerned. Would assume the club knows it as well, if what we've been hearing is true. And one way or another, whether it's going with Romero this coming season or bringing in a replacement, the club should be prepared for it and have more than enough time to do so.
I'm still for option A, meaning going with Romero as our first choice goalkeeper for this season, hoping that Henderson will prove capable at Prem level with Sheffield, with an eye towards making him our #1 by the 20/21 season. We can still go for someone else by then, if hopes in him prove unfounded. Romero is not Dave at his best obviously and has some mistakes in him on occasion, but he's still good enough to be our #1 on an interim basis.

Romero is an A class backup but a C class starter. With our defense, asking him to start everygame would be a mistake.

We need to see how the back 4 will be upgraded this summer (with a new CB and RB reasonably expected to come in). So depending on how it looks then, I probably will be able to live with Romero behind it on a 'short' term basis, like Carroll back in the day.
I love Dave but I'm not sure how I feel about him just running out the string, waiting for his next move to Paris. I could be completely wrong and he will prove to be a complete professional and back to his usual level. But after what we saw from him in the tail end of the season, I have my doubts.
I hate feeling this way, considering everything he's done in his time with us, but if he's not going to sign a new contract, we might as well let him go now, if possible. And as far as a replacement goes, we already have so many needs to address, I'm fine delaying the search for a new one, for the reasons explained previously.

Carroll was nowhere near the level obviously of some of the great keepers United has had, but the time he was our #1 was one when the team was in transition also for starters. Plus goalkeeping wise, he took over from the likes of Barthez and Howard. By any stretch, it was not a great period for us, and this team, just like the one from then, is arguably on the same boat, worse even.
The main point ultimately is that we've got lots of issues to deal with and they can't be all sorted out in one summer. Getting an elite goalkeeper might have to be one of those which will have to take a backseat in all likelihood for another year.

United are set to make Dave a fresh offer.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...-primed-new-contract-offer-manchester-united/

As mentioned in the OTT thread, the options could be narrowing down if PSG decide to make a play for Donnarumma. It would be crazy though if we managed to keep him once again, after the likelihood of him leaving was very real, even on the brink. Let's hope this gets resolved soon one way or another though.

He finished this past season poorly, no argument there. But that's enough to knock him off the top tier apparently according to some? I'd love for Dave to see this somehow: he'd start the season on an absolute tear for sure.

Plus Cech is retired... and don't give me any BS about well it's from last season because he played a whopping 7 Prem games.

If the parameter to classify those guys was their play from this past season (which it obviously appears to be), then Allison and Ter-Stegen deserve to be up at the top. Dave's very poor end of his season very likely came into play, although I'm not sure personally, it should have been enough to knock him off completely from the top rung (even if some bias comes into the equation, I'll admit).
But both Ter-Stegen and Allison however were absolutely superb and extremely consistent this season (Ter-Stegen has been Germany's and one of the world's best keepers for the past 2 seasons really).

Well it was just a picture with no link or reference as to if it was just last season or overall. Even if it was just last season its ridiculous for even including Cech.

United make a fresh and improved to De Gea, as negotiations are ongoing.

    https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soc...1/sources-man-utd-offer-de-gea-improved-terms

Options for Dave outside of United appear to be shrinking by the day. Real are focused on other positions. PSG appear to be looking toward Donnarumma, and don't see how Juve (the only top that might need him) could afford him also at this stage.
It's looking more and more likely, fingers crossed, we'll end up holding onto him once again by the skin of our teeth. And hopefully get him to sign a new contract in short order. Pretty amazing, if it were to happen, even more so that it were to happen again after the 2015 drama.
