Well, I took a more pessimistic tack on the general MLS forum, but better preparation for the matches would help. In particular, the players they tease out when they give the starting lineups. Start with changes from the last match, and go from there. They flat-out missed guys like Pareja, Ivanov, Faria, Cienfuegos and West all breaking in to the starting 11 for their clubs. Someone else suggested having someone with a more analytical presence join Sean and John, but I doubt they have the budget to do that. Later, COZ
Well, Harkes is an analyst the same way Charles Barkley is an analyst. Which is, someone with opinions who is, or might eventurally be, entertaining on TV. Except that his opinions haven't been quite as out there as Sir Charles, and he hasn't started shouting "GINOBLI" every time they come back to the FSW studio. Later, COZ
there is just to much bs going on, it is realy not their fault as production of the games just plainly , can i say suck, anyway they should focus a lot more on showing us the goals and the important parts of the games, replays of fauls , offsides and most important parts of the game. If you watch closely they really hardly show any clips of the games. Time wasting is getting on my nerves and i am starting to use the forward button on my VCR skip the BS and get to the goals. They really need more cameras for the games to cover all angles, then have an expert referee and some soccer people as guests, one idea would be team coach, players, managers to comment on the action.
Honestly? Stop running the same ads during every single break. Seriously, it's enough to make me want to see a Girls Gone Wild ad instead.
we have a whole forum for FSW related stuff... since this thread keeps popping up I'll say this again. Even things like production value, on air talent, writing, and editing qualities take time and resources to develop. Have patience with MLS Wrap. I think that they've been constantly improving under the current format that they have. Next year they might decide to tweek that format and I have a feeling that would probably yeild good results. There are some things that I'd like to see differently and I think most people agree that they could use more game analysis and another guy at the desk. But I'm going to give them plenty of patience especially because I really enjoy watching the show. And hopefully more people watching, more people demanding FSW World leads to more advertisers and more resources. Remember ESPN was no gem when it first started out.
Your idea to help the show is to add more variety to the commercials. Not a real helpful suggestion. The reason why they run the same commercials is because the show has NO sponsors. And they are not going to add cameras to games just for highlights. Thats a fantasy world suggestion. These people are running a show on a budget that if it were any tighter John and Sean woudl be doing the show in the dark with flashlights and hand puppets. The content, analysis and highlights can be improved, but asking for Sportsenter type production is nonsense at this point.
I don't think that anyone suggested that they add more cameras just for this one show. It should be done so for every game just because it is the right thing to do to capture all the action. I truely belive that the camera work is very important part of the game, it would only serve for better understanding of the action and what actualy goes on on the pitch. In MLS you can't judge an offiside call, in MLS you can't see the goals scored from every angle, in MLS you can't see the closeups of a hard tackle. I think we are missing out on a lot becouse of the poor camera work. Would this brake MLS bank account to do it right?
Sorry, but you are wrong. Come on man...YOu deserve better! Allow me to point out 10 facts as to why. 1) continous errors in graphics on line-ups 2) still a gaping void of any intelligent analysis of the matches 3) still fail to relate the essence of a match during the highlights...fail to mention ejected players, key moments and other important info. 4) knucklehead doing voice-overs repeatedly mispronouces names, , factual errors, calls the league the wrong name and is a total clique machine (ex: "climbing the ladder") 5) line-up preview consistantly fails to point out major lineup changes. 6) still is spending way too little time reviewing matches and ending up with 15+ minutes remaining after looking at all the matches. 7) news segment repeatedly fails to talk about major, important MLS news items. 8) Harkes still thinks he is funny, and Sean cannot hide his man-crush on John. John has yet to go a show without doing his irish-british accent shitck... 9) still have not found an effective way to blend the "Fox Populi" idea into the show - bit still grinds the show to a complete halt. Anyone thought to edit the call to remove all of the dead air, stuttering, and parts that have no relavence to the question? 10) Still averaging less than 10 highlights from each match, and are spending only about half of their time showing highlights. So, there. After seven shows they are repeating the same fundimental broadcasting mistakes. I don't expect Sean&John to be expert, perfect, smooth broadcasters... But I do expect some effort being put forth to at least know what happened in the soccer matches so that you can relate that back to the viewers. It is WAY obvious that they are not watching the games by the way they talk about them. The comments tend to be painfully general. Your turn... You give me TEN things that you can show me that have "gotten better" I challenge you. peet
And a weekly thread about the show ... How to improve the show? Everyone dances around it but one way to improve the show instantly would be to fire John Harkes and hire someone more capable.
I disagree. More highlights - more analysis and more opinions (no hedging) will help make this show better. When Harkes get more comfortable behind the desk in front of the camera, he'll be fine.
One thing is that in TV there is a thing it's called development. So that when you watch a show over 5 seasons sometimes you realize that the characters are much sharper and devloped in the 5th season than in the first season. This is the first season of MLS Wrap. I'm sure there are things they could do to fix it. The producers could watch the EPL review show and try to copy it, they could watch the Argentine soccer league review show and copy it, but to tell you the truth there are things about those other shows that I hate. I remember during the first or second show Sean or John mentioned for fans to write in and let them know what your thoughts were about improving MLS Wrap, So please do so.
And after the will and Grace episode....... And after the will and Grace (homosexual tv sitcom) In wich the main caracters of the show are playing soccer, and listen to this... One score a goal CHILENA STILE(BICICLE KICK) I am trying to contac the show producer; these people are trying to portrait SOCCER AS A HOMOSEXUAL SPORT, is not very likely FSW will be able to find more sponsors for the show
Re: And after the will and Grace episode....... I think you're forgetting the smilely to show people you're being sarcastic - I hope. Anyway...... How about a segemnt where Sean and John judge the goal celebration of the week. Could be funny. Show the clip and Sean and John hold up cards with a score. Sean -That Twellman goal celebration- I got to give him a 9.5 for difficulty, you slide into that corner flag wrong and you're in a world of pain. John- I got to disagree. If you got to caress your pole, you shouldn't do it on the field, a 3.5.
This show has no hope, and cannot be saved. Just can it and give us back Celebrity Fishing from Canada and Big Guys carrying refridges up Hills for money...
One more vote for this sugestion Hey you got my vote...I will really would like to see Don Garber answering questions??
I'd like to see a short piece every week about MLS Fantasy Soccer, such as scoring reviews, up-and-coming players and teams, etc.
