In other threads, I've noticed some wildly disparate opinions of our brief look at Brenes so far, so I started this thread to get people to post their opinions all in one place.

    I'll start:

Good: Excellent first touch, good dribbler, good possession passer. Defensively, didn't get destroyed by Cobi Jones, which has happened to other people, even in the "older, slower Cobi" era.

Bad: Small, slow, not very athletic, not very aggressive, not many dangerous passes. Can't be looked at as a significant defensive contributor, but similarly, was probably our least dangerous offensive player other than Regan and Wells.

Mitigants: Albright was the one who made him look slow, and Albright is fast. One game is a very small sample size. His passes forward might have been more memorable if Woly and Magee had been able to do more with them.

Summary: He deserves more chances, but at this moment, he's one of my last choices off of the bench for this team. Other viewpoints?

When Regan saves your ass twice in the same game after getting burned, you know you're not ready for primetime.

Why? Regan is a very good defensive player. Hes supposed to cover for his mid.

He does not appear to be an option in defense, though that is were we are weak, but he could supply some possibilities at midfield. Would you start him over Vaca and move Gaven to the right?

After the New England game, it dawned on me that Brenes just isn't a winger at all. He's a middle-of-the-field midfielder, which is fine. Just not on this team, which has Guevara, Gaven, Lisi, Clark, and Gilberto. If Michael Bradley gets healthy, I wonder who's higher on his mental depth chart between these two.
