This past friday the presidents of the LN clubs along with those who run the LN met to determine some important things for the future of Swiss Football.

"The Presidents of the LNA and LNB along with the members of the committe of the League National ASF met together friday and saturday morning.

    FC Vaduz:
The most important decision concerned FC Vaduz, the club presidents accepted in principle the promotion of FC Vaduz in LNA.

A large majority of the clubs decided to allow in principle the green light to FC Vaduz to participate in the LN A. There are still problems that need to be worked out outside the sporting side.

    Mode of the Leagues

    LNB:
With 16 teams playing in it next year a new method of play had to be develloped. To give a particular character in the second league and to increase interest among the sopporters of the teams, the league will be organized like the UEFA Cup. The games will be home and away right after each other. A wim will be worth 3 points, a tie worth 1, and 2 bonus points will be awarded if a team wins both the games.

LNA: The saison 2003/2004 will be held with four matches betwee each club.
The match calender will only be set for the first 18 games, during the break the last 18 will be set to take into possibility the race for the champion, derbies, etc.

    Cooperation with the Austrian league

"Following the diverse discussion on a different level concerning an eventual collaboration between the Austrian league and the LN, the LN committe discussed this on an informal basis with all parties interessed."

Sounds like a lot of issues were addressed. It should be interesting to see how it all works out. I think this was a good step.

I don't know about the changes to the NLB. I don't mind the "home and away" format, but it's the extra points that bug me. It reminds me of the old MLS gimmick days...

The bonus point was also in the A-League when you scored more than 3 goals. It is an interesting idea, but I wonder if next years LNB champion will have the most wins, or the most points due to the bonus point.

Also the LNB champion is directly in LNA the following year, while the runner-up goes into a playoff.

I'm laughing that the "bonus point" thing is happening under FIFA's nose.

Stupid rule, even the A-league bonus for goals was better.

This only rewards the powerful teams.

It is sort of ironic that FIFA's home is in Switzerland and their own league is instituting a bonus point.

Most of the publications that have discussed the bonus point have been positive towards it. It should be interesting to see how many people accept it as the season begins next year with the changes in place.

Its just going to widen the gap between the top half and bottom half. You won't have "6 pointers" you'll have "8 pointers", and that's not going to help the league stay competitive.
