    McBride talks with Blackbburn

I just saw on SKY sports news that Blackburn Rovers are in talks for Brian Mc Bride. Good for him Bad for the league.
Hypothetical question: Will anyone want to go to see soccer matches in the US after we have exported all of our best players?

This actually has some Metro interest. There's been a lot of talk about Columbus having a glut of forwards, and us trying to pry one of them from them (either Cunningham or Buddle). However, if McBride signs with a Euro team, then the remaining forward would be needed at Columbus and therefore we'd have even less of a chance to get them. Admittedly, it looked like it was always going to be a longshot, but if this transfer happens, the chance would go from very slight to zero.

How is that bad for the league?? The fact that european teams are intrested in our players brings the league much needed respect. With the growth of soccer in this country there are many up and coming players to fill these voids left by players going abroad. This is excactly what a growing soccer nation needs.

What this league needs to be a continuing succsess is $$$$$$$$$$$. And nobody puts a$$es in the seats like star players. Take Valderama for instance, whenever he came to play at Giants Stadium there were an extra influx of Colombians there just to see him. And was anyone there at the 2003 pre season game against Rochester. During the autograph session after the game there were lines a mile long to see Mathis, Pope and Howard. Digi, Grafer, and the rest of the team almost died of lonliness. So we do need to keep Big name players in the league, to get people to pay to watch so we could afford to buy bigger names and get even more people to watch, get it? But if you are happy being a feeder league for europe thats fine, you can start a Tim Regan cheering section.

Nothing puts money in the pockets of smaller clubs like transfer fees.

There is no statistically significant difference between Crew attendance when McBride plays, when McBride does not play, and when McBride is out with notice (injuries or callups).

Believe it or not - Crew fans care about the team and about winning, regardless of who's playing.

Thread title changed to reflect contents.

If you want to talk about the Mcbride transfer, it belongs on the Yanks Abroad board.

    Thanks.
